COURT Ma n pl ea s not guilty to sh oo ti ng a t girlfriend By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF The Tehama Dis- trict Fairground had five build- ings completely full Friday of people seeking and offering help, making a connection as part of the fifth annual LIFT Tehama event, a combination of Recycle theWarmth,whichcelebrated30 years of helping people, and Proj- ect Homeless Connect. At the event, named LIFT for Live Inspired For Tomorrow, at- tendees were able to get a meal thanks to the efforts of Judy and Jeff Mandolfo of Snack Box Ca- tering. Their group served 760 people in 2014 and prepared enough for about 1,000 this year with three different soups avail- able, Judy Mandolfo said. The team put out about 300 cinna- mon rolls for breakfast. "We had people lining up be- fore eight o'clock," said LIFT Te- hama Chairwoman Gail Locke. "The line went clear to the gate. "This event is a day of providing services people need to those who need it the most to help them take a step forward in life. It's about removing obstacles." An example of removing an obstacle came in the form of a teenage boy who wanted to join the wrestling team, but couldn't afford the sports physical, Locke said. "Sometimes it's the little things," Locke said. "Dr. Chris Louisell, an ER doctor, was able to do the sports physical and make it possible for a homeless boy to wrestle." In all there were about 50 dif- ferent booths of various agencies with the majority coming from Redding to Chico. As has been the case for a few years, TRAX provided free bus rides to those attending the event and starting in 2014 they expanded it to include south county as well with a pickup in Corning, Locke said. "This is a good thing," said Tehama County Supervisor Den- nis Garton, who came to check out the event. "A lot of people need help and this is one way we can provide them services and make a difference in some- one's life." New this year was an area in Recycle the Warmth with career clothes for those planning to at- tend job interviews or to wear to work. President Francois Hollande condemned it as terrorism and pledged that France would stand firm against its foes. The worst carnage was at a concert hall hosting an Ameri- can rock band, where scores of people were held hostage and attackers ended the standoff by detonating explosive belts. Police who stormed the building, kill- ing at least three attackers, en- countered a bloody scene of hor- ror inside. Paris Prosecutor Francois Mo- lins said as many as five attack- ers were killed, though it was not clear how many there were alto- gether and how many, if any, were still at large. Authorities said the death toll could exceed 120 for at least six sites, including the national sta- dium and a tight circle of popu- lar nightspots.
