Epsilon Chapter Bursting at the Seams!
Chapter Logs 2,400 Philanthropy Hours
A
s a senior I have watched Alpha Xi Delta grow beyond belief.
When I received my bid card, the chapter total was at 64, and now
with 130 women, we are bursting at the seams! We had an outstanding
recruitment, giving 38 women bid cards this fall. Our new members have
quickly grown into lifelong friends and we have seen more consistency in
our retention rates.
ACADEMICS IMPROVING
After implementing a new point-based academic system, we have seen a
vast improvement in our academics. At Convention this year we received
an award, for the second year in a row, for having a new member GPA
higher than a 3.0. We also received recognition for having a chapter GPA
above a 3.0. We have raised our chapter GPA from under 3.0 to a 3.219.
PHILANTHROPY WORK
Last year alone, we logged more than 2,400 hours in philanthropy work.
With the additions of external and internal philanthropy positions, we have
seen vast improvements in our philanthropy work as a whole. Although
our focus is Autism Speaks, we have been attending more and more local
events as well.
SISTERHOOD EVENTS
We have had multiple sisterhood events this semester, including doing
homework together, board games, crafting, and tie-dyeing t-shirts. Our
goal is two sisterhood events each month. This year we focused on getting
the new members more one-on-one time with each class. Our sisterhood
events allow us to bond with sisters and have fun while doing it.
STROLLER PAIRINGS
Beta Theta Pi and Phi Delta Theta are our Strollers pairings this year. Phi
Delta Theta has invited us regularly for bonfires, a movie night, and a
football game night. We also have bonfires and yard games with Beta Theta
Pi. Both fraternities have helped us make co-rec volleyball and football
teams. We have more socials coming up, including pumpkin carving and a
scavenger hunt.
EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP ROLES
Several of our members hold executive leadership roles outside of Alpha Xi
Delta. Each of our sisters is pushed and encouraged to join at least one other
organization. Our sisters hold leadership roles in Coyote Crazies, SERVE,
Dakota Days Committee, College Democrats, AWOL, and The National
Society of Leadership and Success. By joining outside organizations, we
feel that people are truly able to see who we are as an organization.
Although my term is quickly coming to an end, I know this chapter will be
in wonderful hands in years to come. Membership Vice President Macie
Harris '13 and I had the chance to attend the 51st National Convention
in Boston this past summer. What an experience! As a senior, it was nice
to see how much this sisterhood really becomes something that stays with
you forever.
We strive to treat our alumnae how we hope to be treated after we move
into the next chapter of our lives—with dignity and sisterhood. We want
to showcase our chapter improvements and the endless opportunities our
chapter is creating for our new members.
