Galatians5:17Ampli- fied says, "For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the (Holy) Spirit, and the (desires of the) Spirit are opposed to the flesh (godless hu- man na- ture); for these are antagonistic to each other (continually withstanding and in con- flict with each other), so that you are not free but are prevented from doing what you desire." Notice the words: op- posed, antagonistic, with- standing, conflict, not free, and prevented. Our flesh actively opposes God. We need to call it as it is. Sin. Our flesh resists His word and His ways, as well as His blessings. You cannot lead one who is resisting you. Galatians 5:16 says, "I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh." Romans 7:23 says, "But I see another law in my members, war- ring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members." Our uncon- scious mind is a member. Romans 6:13 says, "And do not present your mem- bers as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your mem- bers as instruments of righteousness to God." What do you have hid- den in your unconscious that has undermined your health? Buried emotional traumas, unforgiveness, churning vengeance, and bitter roots all continue to take a toll on our health. Our minds and bodies are intricately woven together. Do you have a health is- sue? Ask the Holy Spirit if it is rooted in some- thing you have buried in your unconscious. Nothing is hidden from the Lord. That is a wonderful truth. He is more than willing to reveal it so you can be set free. It doesn't mat- ter what or when, it is all known to Him. Mark 4:22 says, "For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light." Never underestimate the power of God. Ephe- sians 1:19 Amplified says, "And (so that you can know and understand) what is the immeasur- able and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as demon- strated in the working of His mighty strength." No- tice the words: immeasur- able, unlimited, and sur- passing. Our God is the Chain Breaker. Peter was bound by chains to two guards. Acts 12:7 says, "...his chains fell off his hands..." Acts 16:26 says, "Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and every- one's chains were loosed." We do not have to try to remember what we bur- ied in our unconscious. He knows. When our hearts are ready to receive His revealing, He will expose what we hid. We do need to acknowledge that we opposed Him. We need to also recog- nize that our sin blocked the blessings He desired for us. He does not bless one who dwells in dis- obedience. Deuteronomy 28:1-2 says, "Now it shall come to pass, if you dili- gently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His com- mandments which I com- mand you today...all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, be- cause you obey the voice of the Lord your God." Disobedience brings a curse. Verse 15 says, "But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you." Though Moses is speak- ing to the children of Is- rael, we can apply it to our lives. Are you being over- run with His blessing, or are you bound in the curses of disobedience? Buried things in our un- conscious block God's in- tended blessings. He will reveal your hidden pain when you ask Him. He will break your chains and set you free. When you con- fess the hidden as sin and release the emotional pain to Him, He will reverse the curse. If you have never ac- cepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, don't oppose His offer any lon- ger. I urge you to call out to Him today. Romans 10:13 says, "For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." MarilynAdamsaccepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in 1958. A debilitating accident in 1977 radically changed her life. Through that crucible of affliction, the Lord wooed her into intimacy, teaching her timeless truths that sustain her, and permeate her teachings. GODTALK Opposing forces at work Adams The Independent Lu- theran Church of Corning will conduct a Veterans Day Service at 5 p.m. Wednes- day, Nov. 11. CORNING Veterans Day service set By Brady Mccombs The Associated Press SALT LAKE CITY Gay and lesbian Mormons and their supporters are reeling over a rule change by church of- ficials that says members in same-sex marriages can be kicked out and their chil- dren are to be barred from being baptized unless they disavow homosexual rela- tionships. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints disseminated the hand- book changes this week to local church leaders around the world. The goal was to provide clarity to lay lead- ers who run congregations, church spokesman Eric Hawkins said. But the revisions trig- gered a wave of anger, con- fusion and sadness for a growing faction of LGBT- supportive Mormons who had been buoyed in re- cent years by church lead- ers' calls for more compas- sion and understanding for LGBT members. "It feels like they are ex- tending an olive branch and hitting you with it," said Wendy Montgomery, a Mor- mon mother of a 17-year-old gay son. "It's like this emo- tional whiplash." Montgomery said Friday the news left her son sob- bing and forced her and her husband to consider leaving a religion they've belonged to for generations. She said the couple has been trying desperately to stay in the church despite a harsh re- ception to their son com- ing out. Montgomery also echoed a response shared by many on social media: She can somewhat understand the hard stance on same-sex marriage, but she can't comprehend singling out gay couple's children. "We just put a scarlet letter on these kids," Mont- gomery said. "This isn't my church. I don't see God in it. I don't see divinity it. It just feels evil." Hawkins noted the church is simply reiterating its doctrine, which clearly states homosexual activ- ity is a sin and that God intended marriage be be- tween a man and a woman. "The Church has long been on record as oppos- ing same-sex marriages," Hawkins said in a state- ment. "While it respects the law of the land, and ac- knowledges the right of oth- ers to think and act differ- ently, it does not perform or accept same-sex marriage within its membership." The changes come as other religious groups that oppose gay marriage strug- gle with how to approach the issue of children of same-sex spouses. The new rules stipulate that children of parents in gay or lesbian relationships — be it marriage or just liv- ing together — can no lon- ger receive blessings as in- fants, be baptized when they are about 8 years old, or serve mission as young adults unless they: • Disavow the practice of same-sex relationships. • Turn 18 and no longer live with gay parents. • Get approval from their local leader and the highest leaders at church headquar- ters in Salt Lake City. The church views these key milestones as acts that bind a person to the faith and as promises to follow its doctrine. The changes align with the way the church ad- dresses children in polyga- mousfamilies, saidMatthew Bowman, associate profes- sor of history at Henderson State University. They've left Mormons everywhere shaken up, he added.
