Staffreports REDDDING The Spartans finished the season well at the Master's Cham- pionships on Saturday at Shasta Col- lege. Julia Brandt came .12 seconds away from winning a Section Ti- tle in the 100 Freestyle. Brandt was tied with Tori Fountain of Orland at the 50 mark, edged ahead of her at the 75 but Fountain was able to out touch her with a time of 55.51 as Brandt touched at 55.63, only .4 off of Brandt's own school record. In the 50 Freestyle Brandt placed 5th with a fast time of 25.94. With Brandt's ef- forts she earned First Team All-Sec- tion honors for the 3rd straight year. Ellie Fletcher had a solid meet with huge time drops in both of her events. In the 100 Breaststroke Fletcher placed 4th with a time of 1:16.01, which is also the 3rd fastest time ever at Red Bluff High School. In the 200 IM Fletcher dropped five seconds going 2:31.79 and placed 10th. That swim is the 5th fastest time in school history. Fletcher was named All-Section Honorable Men- tion for these two performances. Senior Mitchell Sauve finished 6th in the 200 IM with a season best time of 2:19.46 and placed 10th in the 100 Breaststroke going 1:12.51. Sauve was named to the All-Section Honorable Mention team as well. Jordan Munoz placed 14th in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:21.75. Jacob Patterson swam a sea- son best 1:13.76 in the 100 Breast- stroke and placed 11th. Nathan Fregoso finished 15th in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:09.08 and Noah Caylor was 16th in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 59.17. The girls 200 IM Medley Relay team finished 9th with a season best time of 2:10.99 and the boys 200 Free Relay team placed 10th with a time of 1:45.60. MercyWarriors The Mercy High Swim Team var- sity qualifiers traveled to West Valley High Wednesday, Oct. 28 for the Di- vision 2 Finals. Top performers included Anthony Aviles 4th in the 50 freestyle, and 7th in the 100 freestyle. Henna Acevedo was named player of the match, with 7 kills, 9 aces, 2 blocks and 3 digs. Other standouts for Los Moli- nos included Rachel Rogers with 12 kills, 6 aces and 4 digs; Liset Castillo with 6 kills, 3 aces and 12 digs; Justine Yarbrough with 2 kills; Michell Woolbert with 3 blocks and Vanesa Cota with 22 assists. With the win the Bulldogs move to 25-15 overall and 5-1 in league play for the season. The Bulldogs are schedule to host Redding Christian, 19-8-1 overall and 6-1 in league play at 6:30 tonight for Senior Night. Other games scheduled tonight include the Red Bluff Spartans, 9-14 overall and 3-7 in league, tak- ing on the Enterprise Hornets at 7 in Redding; the Corning Car- dinals, 10-19 overall and 2-6 in league, hosting the Central Val- ley Falcons, 2-20 overall and 0-8 in league, at 6:30 and the Mercy Warriors, 14-10 overall and 4-3 in league play, at the Maxwell Panthers, 10-7 overall and 2-4 in league, at 5:30 in Maxwell. VOLLEYBALL Los Molinos defeats Providence in 3 sets By Chip Thompson editor@redbluffdailynews.com @editorchip on Twitter CORNING The Cardinals traded punches with the Anderson Cubs on Friday night and even held a lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Cubs were able to move the ball well on the ground and stepped up on defense with two interceptions and fumble recov- eries for the 54-33 win. Despite a lopsided second half, Cardinals coach John Studer said the most important thing for his players was to stick together go- ing into next week's home game against Yreka, which he called the first week of the playoffs because the winner of that game will likely make the post season. "We definitely did some good things tonight," Studer said. "It wasn't all bad." FOOTBALL Cardinals bested by Cubs at home Staff reports HERLONG The Mercy Warriors completed a league sweep Sat- urday with a 54-0 win over the Herlong Vikings to end the sea- son 7-0 in league play and 7-2 overall. With the win, the Warriors will host the Butte Valley Bull- dogs to open the playoffs Satur- day. Al House was named overall player of the game with 275 all purpose yards, 4 touchdowns and 7 tackles. Teddy Ranberg was named offensive player of the game, Noe Rodriguez for de- fense and Richie Borges for spe- cial teams. In addition to 265 rushing yards on 13 carries, House threw for 73 yards and was 4 of 7 and caught a 10-yard pass from Ran- berg. Ranberg also had 13 car- ries for 185 yards and a touch- down and 3 tackles; Rodriguez had 47 yards on 4 carries and a touchdown, 5 tackles and a sack; Borges had a rushing touchdown, 4 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a 2-point conversion and kicked 3 extra points and Bryce Baer had 55 yards on 6 carries and a touchdown, 3 tackles and a half sack. The Warriors will host Butte Valley, 5-4 overall and 3-3 in league play, at noon Saturday at Sacred Heart School in Red Bluff. Los Molinos 62, Westwood 18 LOS MOLINOS The Bulldogs closed out the season Friday night with a big win over West- wood, putting up 30 points in the first quarter. Alex Russell was named over- all player of the game, Tyler Win- ter earned the honor for offense, Jarred Costa for defense and Josue Orozco for special teams. Russell had 241 yards on 11 carries, 5 touchdowns, threw a 41-yard touchdown pass and had 40 yards of kick returns and a 50 yard interception return, giving him 331 all purpose yards on the night. He recorded 7 tackles and made 2 conversions. Winter was 1 for 3 through the air with a touchdown and an interception, ran for 36 yards on 3 carries and a touch- down and made 13 tackles and 2 sacks; Costa made 9 tackles and 4 sacks and Orozco caught a touchdown pass, made 9 tack- les and had a 63-yard punt re- turn for a touchdown. Kyle Wood caught a pass for a touchdown and had 8 tack- les, Dawson Spencer put up 11 tackles and Daniel Garcia had an interception. Winter and Wood each blocked a field goal attempt.
