PX/PTC: November 16, at 10 am in Dept 1 PX: November 17, at 1:30 pm in Department 2 COURTROUNDUP By Paul Elias The Associated Press SAN RAFAEL Three young transients accused of rob- bing and killing a man and woman days apart in Northern California filed into court Thursday amid heavy security, each shack- led at the waist and legs, and once again delayed en- tering pleas to charges that could lead to the death pen- alty. The three appeared briefly in Marin County Superior Court and were ordered to return Nov. 19 to enter pleas to first-de- gree murder and related charges. They are charged with gunning down Audrey Carey, a 23-year-old Cana- dian backpacker who was camping in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park during a three-day music festival. Her body was found in the park Oct. 3. Two days later, the three robbed and killed Steve Carter, a 67-year-old yoga tantra instructor, investi- gators said. They were arrested Oct. 7 in Portland, Oregon, and found in possession of Cart- er's car and Carey's camp- ing equipment, authorities said. Investigators also said they recovered the handgun used to kill both victims. The court case has since moved slowly, due in large part to the time it took to appoint the defendants sea- soned lawyers qualified to handle death penalty cases. An attorney was for- mally appointed Thursday to represent Lili Alligood, 18. Lawyers previously were appointed for Sean Angold, 24, and Morrison Haze Lampley, 23. The attorneys all de- clined to comment outside court.
