The Work-Based Learning Program at Fayetteville
Technical Community College has opened its doors
for new sponsors. Can you provide a valuable
learning environment for an FTCC intern? Here are
the details about the program.
Work-Based Learning is an educational option that
provides students an opportunity to apply classroom
learning with paid (or non-paid) work experiences.
Students are placed in jobs related to their major
and career goals in area businesses, industries and
public agencies which provide ascending levels of
responsibility and training as students carry out
their work assignments. Work-Based Learning is
synonymous with the word "internship."
All WBL students are pre-screened by the WBL
Coordinator to ensure they meet not only FTCC
requirements but also all the state requirements.
These requirements include the following:
• Students have a minimum GPA of 2.0.
• Students must be officially enrolled in a program
that offers the Work-Based Learning option.
• Students must have completed a minimum of 12
credit hours in the "major/core" courses.
Students are not "green" but have a basic
foundation. Work-Based Learning courses are
offered every semester at FTCC: fall semester (which
usually begins August through half of December),
spring semester (which usually begins January
through half of May), and summer semester (which
usually begins at the end of May through July).
The FTCC Work-Based Learning Program is
offered in over forty programs. From Business
Administration to Criminal Justice Technology
to Medical Office Administration to Paralegal
Technology, the list goes on.
So, what is the next step to secure an intern for
your facility? All you need to do is complete an
Employer Request for WBL Student form at www.
faytechcc.edu (click on "Academics," "Work-Based
Learning," and then "Employer Forms" or type in
http://www.faytechcc.edu/cooperative_education/
employer_forms.aspx). The form can either be
scanned/emailed (atkinsok@faytechcc.edu) to me or
faxed to 910.678.8445.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact
atkinsok@faytechcc.edu or call 910.678.8268. On
campus, visit room 365, Cumberland Hall (which
is on the bottom level across from the auditorium).
FTCC welcomes the opportunity to discuss the WBL
Program with you as well as other ways FTCC can
open the door of opportunity for you. FTCC offers
over 200 programs of study leading to the award
of associate degree, certificate, or diploma, plus a
wide range of Continuing Education programs of
study and courses. Make the smart choice for your
education—FTCC. Below is a recap of important
