MISSOURIGAMMA PAGE 3 G oing to Misourri S&T was an easy decision for Ray Zesch '70. While he was still a senior in high school, Ray went to visit a friend in Rolla. During that time, he met and talked to many SigEps, which made it an easy decision to pledge in the fall. Sigma Phi Epsilon was a home away from home. Through all the events and brotherhood, Ray fondly remembers his time in the Chapter House. "Some of my favorite memories are the party weekends, like Homecoming, Sweethearts, and St. Pat's," he says. "But I also remember time spent with each of my brothers just hanging out on weekends and late nights solving all the world's problems. I remember the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas when the fire in the fireplace burned non-stop. I remember returning to Rolla after Christmas with the feeling that I was coming back home again." Now as an alumnus, Ray works on the alumni board and with the Balanced Man Program, which helps develop character and instill SigEp values. Ray hopes to accomplish many things with the program, such as help the men experience the brotherhood, live SigEp values, and provide support every year as an alumni board member. "The alumni are the foundation that makes the current undergraduate experience possible," he says. "Even if you are not currently involved as an alumnus, many have contributed financially. There are many ways that alumni can help; something that fits you can be found. You will be repaid many times over for your help. The young men at Rolla are the best, and it is a real privilege to know them." Ray says working on the board has allowed him to maintain contact and even connect with brothers he might not have known otherwise. He stays connected with many brothers through e-mail and Facebook. Ray's advice for the undergraduates is to always maintain communication. "Stay in touch with your brothers as you start your jobs and families; today it is easier than ever with social media, and join the SigEp MO Gamma group on LinkedIn," he says. Ray is now retired and is enjoying it. He and his wife, Maggi, live on a small lake near Byrnes Mill, Missouri, and enjoy fishing and hunting with their son, Darren, and grandchildren, and they also have a daughter, Renée. Ray is an active member of Spring Hills Presbyterian Church. He and Maggi will be traveling soon. Ray can be reached at rrzesch@gmail.com. Donald R. Bogue '55 passed away on August 21, 2014, at the age of 81. Donald was a graduate of Roosevelt Senior High School, class of 1950, in Monticello, Ind., and served his country in the U.S. Army. Donald worked for Delco-Remy in sales and heavy duty systems, retiring in 1988. He attended Faith Presbyterian Church. Michael J. Cullen '55 passed away on July 19. He resided in Sun City Center, Fla. He treasured his Missouri Gamma friendships and loved all of his fraternity brothers. Louis James Nolfo '61 passed away on December 14, 2014, in Huntsville, Ala. He is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Tim Nolfo, Drew Nolfo, and Nancy Borysko; eight grandchildren; and sister, Mary Layton, and her husband, John, of St. Louis, Mo. the alumni board could benefit from your professional skills, or perhaps from skills you learned from your favorite hobby or recreational activity." Looking at the undergraduates now, Mike sees that they need alumni involvement. Alumni understand what they're going through and can provide insight for life in Rolla and after they graduate. "They need to hear these life lessons from as many people as possible and in as many ways as possible," he says. "Just a little contact with an alumnus that they can identify with can make all of the difference." Mike and his wife of 33 years, Sherri, live in St. Louis. In his free time, Mike likes to work on cars and tractors and tinker with anything that is broken to try and fix it. He can be reached at schmidtmtnexus7@gmail.com.
