Beginning Teacher of the Month Beginning Teacher of the Month
Congratulations to
Megan Bailey
Beginning Teacher of the Month
for Cumberland County Schools
January's Beginning Teacher of the
Month is Megan Bailey from Max Ab-
bott Middle School. Ms. Bailey has the
confi dence and instructional delivery
of a veteran teacher. She utilizes mul-
tiple strategies such as cooperative
learning, Think-Pair-Share, Peer Teach-
ing, and assorted graphic organiz-
ers that she has learned from various
workshops and college coursework.
Her students are always engaged in
meaningful learning.
One of Megan's strengths is class-
room management. She uses various
techniques such as clapping and ran-
dom stick draw to manage her class
during instruction. She has already mastered "the look" (which is working quite
well for her). When issues arise, Megan disciplines her students with dignity
and will take them aside when discussing an issue to ensure privacy, which
validates the respect she has for the students.
Megan's personality has enabled her to make a strong connection with her
students. They practically run into the room to see what they will be learning
that day. Megan is an integral part of her team at Max Abbott. She meets with
her grade level curriculum teachers weekly to plan for the upcoming weeks.
She also shares strategies and ideas with her teammates on a daily basis.
Overall, Megan is a great role model for other teachers in the building. Her
county mentor has been equally impressed with the level of success Megan is
experiencing in her fi rst year of teaching. Megan is eager for advice on becom-
ing a better teacher and always implements suggestions from her mentors.
Her county mentor observes Megan teaching and responding to children sim-
ilar to a seasoned teacher. She does an excellent job.
Ms. Bailey grew up in Lexington, North Carolina
and is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. Megan is still
a member of the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor
Society in Education.
