GAMMA PHI BETA 3 M any of you probably remember the fun memories you and your mother shared during your years in the Gamma Phi house. You will be happy to know that the many traditions started years ago are still happening at Sigma. The Mom's Club is a vital part of the house activities and makes many extras possible throughout the year. The Mom's Club board is made up of four sophomore parents who begin planning activities over the summer before the girls move in for work week. The first event is mock recruitment, followed by Parents' Weekend, Dad's Weekend, Mom Ginny's holiday tea, Mom's Weekend, and the senior graduation dinner in the spring. In addition, throughout the year, Mom's Club provides study snacks and special meals during finals. Over the years, Mom's Club has made significant donations to the house corporation that helped refurbish room cubbies, renovate the bathrooms, provide new vacuums, and general house maintenance. The Gamma Phi Beta Mom's Club financial support comes from membership dues and the Mom's Weekend premier raffle. The premier raffle is the primary fundraiser for Mom's Club. The reservation for Mom's Weekend includes a $50 donation toward the purchase of raffle items. Last year, the raffle included over 40 unique raffle packages, including items from product lines such as David Yurman, Tory Burch, Ray Ban, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, and many more. The Mom's Club board works very hard all spring to purchase and secure donations for a fantastic assortment of raffle prizes. The raffle takes place on Saturday night of Mom's Weekend with raffle ticket sales and drawings adding a lot of excitement to the evening. Last year's prizes resulted in record high raffle ticket sales, making it possible for Mom's Club to donate more than $16,000 to the house corporation board for improvements to the chapter house over the summer. If you are anywhere near the Gamma Phi house, make sure to stop by and see for yourself. The chapter house has never looked better! The Gamma Phi Beta Mom's Club is proud to support the chapter, the young women, and their families. Most of all, our goal is to make it possible for our daughters to have a fantastic college experience in their sorority and maintain the Gamma Phi Beta house as a distinguished address on the KU campus and a beautiful home for our girls. Melinda Lamoreaux Gamma Phi Beta Mom's Club News F all formal recruitment was a shining moment for Sigma Chapter. After a tiring week of practice, we shared with the potential new members our values, personalities, home, and traditions in hopes that they would love Gamma Phi Beta just as much as we do. On Bid Day, we gained 61 wonderful new members, 11 of whom are legacies. Overall, we feel recruitment was a great success. We have expanded our sisterhood to new women who meet our values and whom we believe will only make our chapter a better organization. We celebrated the life of late Gamma Phi Beta, Eileen Teahan '92, who was killed in a drunk driving accident, by having our annual golf tournament at Alvamar Golf Course in Lawrence. We had an amazing turnout with 16 teams participating and thousands of dollars raised for our local philanthropy, The Willow Domestic Violence Center. Every year we strive to get more families and friends involved and raise more money than the previous year, and we were very successful in 2015! In ΠΚΕ, Paige Lueker '13 Chapter President Sigma members practiced rushing alumnae and mothers the night before recruitment began to sharpen their conversational skills, give house tours, present their skit, and sample delicious hors d'oeuvres.
