Healthful eating film To promote good health in the community there will be a second free screening of the health film "Forks over Knives" at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 720 S. Jackson St., Red Bluff. The film examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be con- trolled, or even reversed, by rejecting animal-based and processed foods. The major storyline traces the personal journeys of Dr. T. Colin Campbell, a nutritional biochemist from Cornell Uni- versity, and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, a former top surgeon at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic. Inspired by remark- able discoveries they made, these men conducted several groundbreaking studies. Their separate research led them to the same startling conclusion: degenerative diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes and even several forms of cancer could almost always be prevented, and in many cases reversed, by adopting a whole-foods, plant-based diet. They are ready to admit justification for anger, meanness, bitterness and their attitude. They are ready, willing and able to express their feelings of being mis- led, abused, hurt or some other feel- ing associated with guilt, but rarely are they able to say "I do what I do because I feel guilty about ..." I have written before how guilt and shame are powerful emotions because rooted within them are sin- cere issues that render you blame- less but you later act in a way that brings shame and guilt into your life and now you face conse- quences that negate the fact that you were once victimized. To say this way, perhaps you were treated poorly as a child or even as an adult. Some broken person came into your existence and jacked you up. They hurt you, violated you or took innocence away from you or your loved one. The event hap- pened to you. You didn't ask for it, deserve it or bring it on yourself. You were in the wrong place at the wrong time or you made a poor choice due to ignorance or circum- stance. As you lived with the emo- tions created by someone else's actions, you changed inside. You may not have gotten the justice you thought you deserved and it yet again devalued you. You started to act out in anger maybe lashing out at undeserving people. Perhaps you turned to drugs, alcohol, sex, food or spending. That part of you that was taken or altered never felt fixed. You began going through life operating on impulses you didn't understand and couldn't control. You went from victim to vic- timizer. You felt horrible every time you emotion- ally, physically or other- wise hurt others and guilt set in. Maybe it is even simpler. Maybe you are jealous of others and you find your- self wishing them to be knocked down a peg. You resent their suc- cess and feel they don't deserve it. You have this constant sense of dread or foreboding you can't attribute to anything other than your justification. Guilt may be driving you. Are Faydra Rector You Matter convince yourself that you are enti- tled to your negative feelings because of how you "feel"? Stop it. Stop living half a life because you are too spun out to put the pieces together. Get in touch with guilt. It is fear and shame wrapped up in a really ugly package com- ing at your postage due. Confide in someone what you feel. Your guilt will be shattered. If you need to make an amends, make it. If you need to expose your dirty little secret do it. If you need to call someone you hurt, even years ago, do it. Guilt is not permanent. It washes off like dust with the right amount of pressure. Light overcomes dark, right overcomes wrong and forgiveness overcomes guilt. you avoiding people because you know you think really crappy things about them?
