Ontheair seasonfortheWarriors: KERR'S BACK Kerr had a magic touch as a rookie coach starting with his move to start Harrison Barnes in place of Andre Iguodala. He kept Dray- mond Green in the start- ing lineup after former All-Star David Lee recov- ered from a preseason in- jury and then made two key moves in the postsea- son. First, he put Bogut on Tony Allen in a move that switched momentum in the second round against Mem- phis and then his decision to go small in the finals by starting Iguodala in place of Bogut was a key part of the finals win. Golden State doesn't know when Kerr will be healthy enough to coach again and Walton has never been tested. HEALTHY LIVING The only significant injury the War- riors dealt with last sea- son was to Lee and that even proved to be a bene- fit because it got Green in the lineup. Staying healthy again could be more diffi- cult because of the abbrevi- ated summer following the long playoff run. But the Warriors have depth and Kerr did a good job man- aging minutes with no one playing more than 33 min- utes a night. BIG OR SMALL Golden State had much of its suc- cess last year with a small- ball lineup that had Green at center in place of Bogut. That leaves a combination of Iguodala, Barnes and Shaun Livingston on the wing to go with the shoot- ing backcourt of Klay Thompson and Curry. That lineup changed the tide in the finals and could be a factor again this season "I'm not offended by it," Bogut said. "If I can get three more championships by not playing the last two games of the finals series, I'll shake your hand right now and take it." NASH'S INFLUENCE The Warriors lost associate coach Alvin Gentry to New Orleans but added another sharp offensive mind when former two- time MVP Steve Nash was brought on as a consultant. Nash will work closely with Curry and Thompson. Warriors FROM PAGE 1 qualified for NASCAR's ver- sion of the postseason. But after lousy runs last week- end at Charlotte put Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch in trouble, the pressure is on Edwards and Denny Ham- lin to carry the flag. Edwards still believes in the power of the Gibbs cars, which collectively won 13 times this sea- son, more than any other team. But with only Sun- day's race at Kansas Speed- way and next week's race at Talladega before the Chase trims four more drivers for the three-race "eliminator" round, the tension in the garage area Friday morn- ing was palpable. "So much can happen at this race and obviously the next race, this whole thing can get turned around," Edwards said. "This for- mat, by design, it's almost impossible to predict." One thing that is clear: Winning means an auto- matic ticket to the next round. Joey Logano took care of that at Charlotte, dom- inating at a track similar to Kansas to take the pres- sure off him this week and next. And make no mis- take, there is no other track where Edwards would love to follow suit than Kansas Speedway. The native of Columbia, Missouri, considers the tri-oval his home speed- way, and it has been kind to him in the past, with six top-five finishes and a sec- ond-place run in 2008. But he's also never won at the track. The year he finished second, he tried an audacious dive move to try to get around Jim- mie Johnson at the end. He wound up slapping the wall while Johnson drove to victory, and said later the move had worked for him in video games.
