ORLAND At the Orland City Council meeting on Oct. 5 the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians do- nated $20,000 to the Or- land Police Department and Volunteer Program. "Our donation was made to recognize the pro- fessional service and com- mitment shown by the de- partment and the corps of volunteers, and to en- hance the important role they play within our com- munity," said Tribal Chair- man Andrew Freeman. To better equip officers and volunteers, Orland Po- lice Department will use the donation to purchase 11 body cameras for $12,000, perimeter security cam- eras for the department for $4,000 and miscellaneous safety equipment for police volunteers for $4,000. DONATION Tribe supports Orland Police Gaurav Wahi, DO, MPH, a charismatic, patient-fo- cused OB/GYN is now see- ing patients at Tehama County Women's Health Associates. Prior to joining the com- munity, Wahi served as Chief OB/GYN Resident at Michigan State Univer- sity's Garden City Hospi- tal. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2011 and his Master of Public Health, Environmental and Occu- pational Health from the Drexel University School of Public Health in 2007. "The relationship I culti- vate is one of healer, advi- sor and friend," Wahi said in a press release. "I want to be the local physician that delivered mom and who one day has the plea- sure of delivering baby. I love being an OB/GYN be- cause every birth is unique and special in its own way. The birth of a new family member brings so much joy and energy to not only the new mom and dad but everyone involved in the whole process." HEALTH New OB/GYN joins medical group Dr.GauravWahi We had a lovely evening at Condor Marka Peruvian Restaurant last Thursday. Davis and Milenka Var- gas, the owners, provided some samples of savory and sweet treats for the guests and explained a lit- tle about the blend of Eu- ropean, Spanish, Japanese and other cultures that contributed to the cuisine in Peru. Next month the May- wood Woman's Club will host the event at the club- house on Nov. 12, and you won't want to miss it, so mark your calendar. Ribboncutting The Corning Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting for new member Old Time Drugs Monday, Sunday, on its opening day. We are very happy to have Sherry Borchert, owner of Old Times Drugs, in Corn- ing. Besides being a drug store it is filled with lovely gifts, so we hope you will check it out at 1322 Solano St., formerly Price's Phar- macy. Octoberfest The Corning Senior Cen- terwillhostadinner5-7p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, of German sausages,potatoesandapple pie for $5. There will be mu- sic and opportunity draw- ings. Everyone is invited. Flu clinic There will be a flu clinic at the Corning Senior Cen- ter 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednes- day, Oct. 21. The cost is $4. If you have Medicare Part B it is free. Multi-Cultural Health Fair Latino Outreach of Te- hama County will present a multi-cultural health fair 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Rolling Hills Ca- sino. The first 100 people get a free breakfast. There will be free health screens and education. Some of the testing include blood pres- sure, glucose testing, vision screening, chiropractors, oral cancer screening, flu and whooping cough vac- cinations, and there will be giveaways and raffles in- cluding a TV giveaway. Book sale The Corning Friends of the Library are having their fall book sale 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Corning Library, 740 3rd St. You can get some spectacular deals plus you may enter for a chance to win one of the raffle bas- kets. They will also have some lovely book bags for sale. Win half a pig The Corning Chamber has been donated a pig from Rancher's Deli and Meats that will include a smoked ham and bacon. We will raffle off two half pigs on the day of Hometown Christmas Dec. 5. It will all be packaged up ready to go for the lucky winners. Who- ever wins will have a deli- cious Christmas ham ready for Christmas. Tickets are only $1 each or 6 for $5 and are available at the Cham- ber office or from a cham- ber director. Hometown Christmas We are excited about the upcoming event on Dec. 5 that will honor Hometown Heroes. We want to honor those who serve as first re- sponders that include fire fighters and law enforce- ment, as well as military. They are all heroes who serve our communities. We will have displays of in front of Rodgers Theatre.
