When Lana's grandmother, Betty "Seetie" Sanor Cameron '41, a life loyal Kappa, passed away in February, many Beta Nu sisters joined the family in celebrating her life. This demon- stration of love and compassion resonated with the Camerons and was a true display of the strength of sisterhood. With Kappa memories extend- ing well beyond their under- graduate years, the family knew they wanted to preserve the Beta Nu legacy. "I felt it was important to support the cap- ital campaign because Kappa has given me, and the wom- en of my family, so much that I wanted to give back, if even in a small way," Lana said. "My grandmother loved Kappa dearly. She was always commit- ted to Kappa, not only as an un- dergraduate, but she also served as Executive Director of Kappa Kappa Gamma for many years. There was no question that she would support the capital campaign. I am sure she wished she had the means to give more." With Kappa's return in the fall of 2017, Lana recognizes the importance of honoring her commitment during a pivotal point in Beta Nu's history. "It is through the tough times that support is needed most—it is now for Beta Nu," Lana said. "It is important to me to help pre- serve the Beta Nu legacy as a tribute to the women that have come before and to allow the great Kappa experience for the future young women at OSU." She encourages her Beta Nu sisters to reflect on what Kap- pa has done for them and know that "it does not have to be a big donation for it to help make a difference." For Lana, sisterhood means a sys- tem of support, encouragement, love, and friendship. Those were the values her family experienced, and they are the foundation the family wants to secure for the next generation of Beta Nus. Preserving the Legacy (Continued from page 3) Committed to Beta Nu's Lasting Legacy Katie Conway '93 Pays It Forward F or Katie Conway '93, the impact Kappa Kappa Gamma had in her life is almost too substantial to put into words. During a formative time, Beta Nu provided Katie with a platform to cultivate lasting friendships and develop numerous leadership skills that paved the way for future success. Upon graduation, Katie knew she wanted to provide similar experiences for the next generation of Beta Nus. She saw the First and Finest Since 1888 campaign as a perfect opportunity. "During both undergrad and grad school, I benefited from Kappa's financial assistance. Since then, I have always wanted to give back. This campaign is BETA NU BULLETIN Kappa Kappa Gamma • The Ohio State University Beta Nu Building Association P.O. Following the unfortunate suspension of Beta Nu, Katie encourages alumnae to look toward the future and help maintain the chapter's legacy. "We need to ensure that the money that has already been put into the house does not go to waste," she said. "Two years will fly by, and we need to come back with the best, most amazing house on campus so in five years this is only a distant memory. It is important for people to understand the project is well on its way and is almost complete. Any reconsideration from pledges and donations will drastically affect the financial stability of the house. What has happened is unfortunate, but I want to ensure the Kappas are back on campus in the beautiful house that we love. We were the first sorority at OSU, and we should all be making sure that we are the last." The memories Katie developed as an undergraduate at 55 East 15th Avenue and the friendships that remain are sources of inspiration. If others reflect on their time at Beta Nu, Katie is confident they will also want to show their continued commitment to Kappa Kappa Gamma. "I would encourage other members to think back to their favorite memories of Kappa," Katie said. "Everyone takes something different away from their experience, but the tradition, the friendship and house are the same." Katie and her husband, Tim, reside in Columbus. They have one son, Harper, who is 6 and just finished kindergarten. Katie is an avid yogi and reader and she enjoys biking. She can be reached at katieannconway@gmail.com.
