FOOTBALL RedBluff,CorningtakelossesFriday By Diamond Leung Bay Area News Group OAKLAND Warriors interim head coach Luke Walton has taken after Steve Kerr in being open-minded about accepting input. Among those contributing their thoughtstothe35-year-old Walton are Warriors players he was once teammates with, including Andre Iguodala, Shaun Livingston and Marreese Speights. "It's great because I have a very open relationship with them, and they'll give me feedback on prac- tice," Walton said. "If they think there's something we need to work on that we maybe as a staff forgot to, we feel comfortable in talking like that." Walton played with Iguodala at the University of Arizona and served as a role model for the younger player. He also played on the 24-win Cleveland Cavaliers team in 2012-13 with Livingston and Speights. Speights noted that three seasons ago, he was joking with Walton about him getting old. Now, Walton is filling in for Kerr in a head coaching position that Speights believes his former teammate can one day do full- time. "It's really fun," Speights said. "You've got your friend coaching you. He ain't really going to yell at nobody. He's going to talk to us like men like we all are. He makes surehecommunicateswithusreal good, and we listen to him. We re- spect him." Mercy started hot, going up 19- 0, but the Bulldogs clawed their way back in the second quarter to go into halftime down by just a touchdown, 26-20. In the second half, both de- fenses stepped up but Mercy took advantage of several turnovers to rack up several more scores, in- cluding two long interception re- turns for touchdowns by Al House — he would have 7 scores on the night including 3 rushing, 1 pass- ing and a kickoff return to the house. "When it came time to push that button, you guys made it happen," Warriors coach Brian Medieros told his team after the win. This is a great win today. Be proud. Be Warriors." House opened the scoring with a goal line plunge. A blocked punt on the next series gave the War- riors the ball at the Los Molinos 19 yard line and House took it in again to put Mercy up 13-0 with 5 minutes left in the first quarter. House connected with Kavin McClellan on a 34-yard pass for a score and the Warriors went up 19-0. In the second quarter a long Mercy drive ended with a fum- ble and the Bulldogs took over on their own 25. Los Molinos would capitalize with a 54-yard Tyler Winter pass to Alex Russell for a score. On the ensuing kickoff, House took it 75 yards for a touch, put- ting the Warriors up 26-6. But the Bulldogs weren't going to roll over. Russell broke off a 55-yard run for a score and Jared Costa pulled in a Winter pass in the final seconds of the half to pull within a touchdown at 26- 20. The play came after a Josue Orozco interception. Turnovers set the tone for the second half. Mercy started the second half with a fumble recovery and a drive down the field that ended with a field goal. Neither team was able to sus- tain a drive in the third, but House picked off Winter at the end of the quarter and brought it back 85 yards for a score to put Mercy up 35-20.
