"I love watering and trim- ming the roses," said Chan- dler, who uses a wheelchair. "It's definitely therapy for me. This means so much to me to be able to get into the yard by myself." Chandler's late husband Dick, an Air Force Korean War veteran, passed away af- ter 61 years of marriage and her son, Richard, cares for her as best he can, she said. She has missed being able to take herself out. "Dick and I were just kids when we got married," Chan- dler said. At one point the couple had hundreds of roses bred to not only look good, but smell won- derful, Chandler said. She has lived on her property just north of town for about 20 years. The work on the ramp was done voluntarily through a cor- porate program called Team Depot, and was organized by store manager Jennifer Gua- rino in collaboration with the Tehama County Veterans Col- laborative and Veterans Ser- vice Officer Kelly Osborne. As- sistant manager Seth Plumb designed the new ramp. The Tehama County Veter- ans Collaborative operates un- der the umbrella of Tehama To- gether, a local non-profit, said John Minton, a member of the collaborative. The project was paid for through a grant co- written by Guarino and Min- ton. "The employees come do this on their day off," Guarino said. "Team Depot allows them to do projects on a volunteer basis and the company provides an outlet to get supplies to do the projects." Volunteers included Guarino, Plumb and associates Ed Rear- don, Chad Bagwell, Russ Scharr and Eileen Jones. The next project Team Depot will tackle is to repaint the up- stairs and put in new flooring at the PATH Sale House, Gua- rino said. Chandler said she is very pleased with how her new ramp looks and functions.
