4 Lyre Notes C ongratulations to Alpha Nu's 83 new members (quota of 82 and one quota addition), who joined on August 23. From 15 states, the group of 11 sophomores and 72 freshmen was welcomed with an MTV- themed party. This is the first year that more of the new members are from out-of-state than from Missouri. Twenty-six are from Missouri, 29 are from Illinois, and four each are from Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Colorado. Fifteen of the new members are legacies. This class boasts an average high school GPA of 3.75 and the average ACT score is 27. The newest members are accomplished scholars, athletes, artists, musicians, and volunteers. Among the superlative members are two competitive gymnasts; a violinist with the Kansas City Youth Symphony; four varsity tennis players; many soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, and basketball players and captains; yearbook and newspaper editors; class and student council presidents; and a national qualifier in debate and forensics. Among the nearly three-fourths of the members who were in the National Honor Society, there are several Bright Flight and National Merit Scholars. All new members listed numerous service projects and causes they support, including tutoring, Kairos leaders, food banks and more. Nearly 1,900 potential members participated in recruitment at Mizzou this year. Bid Day was moved from the Quad to Faurot Field to better accommodate the large crowd.
