"The purpose of the donation was to benefit the services associated with breast cancer detection and treatment provided by St. Elizabeth Community Hospital's Imaging Center," said Marketing Manager Amy Gonczeruk. The donation went to the Mercy North Foundation, which is the philanthropic arm of St. Elizabeth and Mercy Medical Center as well as the work of the sisters of Mercy, said Mercy North Foundation President Maggie Redmon. The money will be staying at St. Elizabeth where it will be used for the RN Navigator Program, which makes nurses available to help those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer to help them navigate the system as they undergo treatment, Redmon said. "This donation was made possible by the auction of a package put together by the Red Bluff Round- Up Association and other community donors," Gonczeruk said. Jan Sutherland and Les and Stacy Shank of Taco Bell were the successful bidders of the package, which was auctioned off at the April 19 Tough Enough To Wear Pink rodeo performance. The package contained purchased items including custom made pink chaps, a custom made belt buckle, a set of custom spurs and spur straps and a $200 gift certificate to Boot Barn. Donated items included a Resistol hat certificate donated by Wayne Brooks, Bob Tallman and Resistol Hats; a Justin Boots gift certificate donated by Justin Boots; a Boot Barn goodie bag donated by Boot Barn; a Wrangler Jeans certificate donated by Wrangler; and a case of Purple Cowboy Wine donated by Tough Enough To Wear Pink. "I would like to thank the Rodeo Association for their continued sponsorship of Tough Enough to Wear Pink and to extend that appreciation to all those who support this event," said Sister Pat Manoli. "The donations given today will go far into the future of caring for others, especially to the least of our brothers and sisters." The campaign promotes breast cancer awareness and raises funds locally through rodeos and western events. It began in 2004 when entrepreneur and breast cancer survivor Terry Wheatley blended support of the western community with a campaign against breast cancer. Since its inception it has raised more than $10 million for breast cancer charities, most of which stays within local communities. "Tough Enough to Wear Pink is a community-wide event and many businesses, service organizations and individuals participate in the event," said Round-Up Director Jolene Kemen. "Since 2006, Tough Enough to Wear Pink activities have brought in over $350,000 in donations that benefit St. Elizabeth's Community Hospital's Imaging Center." Along with the auction, local donors include Wrangler, Rotary, Tehama Shooters, Haleakala Ranch, and The Round-Up Association. This year the campaign raised almost $61,000 for St. Elizabeth.
