IDE ADOBE 36th annual Adobe Day set for Saturday By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Heather on Twitter REDBLUFF An arraignment date was set Tuesday for Oct. 19 dur- ing a preliminary hearing for Anthony Nahinu, who is charged with shooting a teenage girl July 19 near the Red Bluff Diversion Dam. Judge Jonathan Skillman found that the evidence in the case presented at Tuesday's hear- ing was enough to go to trial. Nahinu, 18, turned himself in on Aug. 19 at the Tehama County Jail after being on the run for a month. The victim of the shooting was sent to Mercy Medical Center in Redding following the incident and has since recovered from her injuries. Tehama County Sheriff's De- tective Jeff Garrett took the stand and recounted his inter- views from the night of the in- cident. A social media dispute was the initial reason for the young women meeting at the Diversion Dam near Sale Lane, Garrett said. Nahinu was associated with Sara Miranda, one of the participants in the argument, but was not in- volved in the dispute. Miranda stated that she had a crowbar and the victim had a baseball bat, Garrett said. Ac- cording to Miranda's statement, the two yelled "put the weapons down" and that is when she heard the gun go off. The weapon was reported to have been put in a truck by Na- hinu but then moved by another person, Miguel Banuelos. Garrett said Banuelos told him he moved the gun because: "I didn't want the girls to go down for what An- thony did." The arraignment was set for Oct. 19 in Department 2 of the Tehama County Superior Court. COURT SHOOTING Arraignmentdateforchargedteen By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF A two-week grace period in parking code enforce- ment efforts by the Red Bluff Police Department through- out the downtown area is about over, with the patrol focused on enforcement having begun on Sept. 23. An e-mail was sent out to the Downtown Red Bluff Business Association by Police Chief Kyle Sanders to let them know that parking enforcement is being re- established. "We will conduct enforcement checks periodically," Sander said in the e-mail. "As you are very likely aware, the Red Bluff Police Department has not focused on downtown parking enforcement for quite some time. However, we have recently hired a part time Community Service Offi- cer (CSO) who will begin peri- odic enforcement checks. While this will not be a daily function, our goal is to conduct parking enforcement a couple days each week." The hope in sending out the e-mail was to avoid frustration since parking enforcement had not been done for at least a year, possibly longer, Sanders said. No citations were expected to be given out during the grace pe- riod, however, there were warn- ings given and some tires were marked. "With respect to downtown parking, the primary focus is two hour parking violations," Sanders said.
