Scanner traffic between 9:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. indicated there was a significant 25-plus acre fire on the Butte County side of the county line about three miles past the Tehama County line. Minutes later a report was made that the fire was 50-100 acres with a crit- ical rate of spread due to high winds. Concern was expressed over the closeness in light of the wind and law enforcement was asked to stage in the area of State Route 99E and Hailey Road for possible evacuations of the west side of 99. The annual event raises funds for the community and has come a long way from its humble beginnings, festival president Kay Zimmerman said. In 2014, the event raised about $6,000 with $4,000 go- ing to local scholarships for secondary education and the remainder to local non-profits. "In the beginning there were about three booths here," Zim- merman said. "We like to do it here at the school track so it won't get any bigger, but we certainly try to make it better every year. My husband was telling me this morning he thinks it's the biggest crowd ever." Organizers were expecting a crowd of about 4,000 to 5,000 over the course of the day, Zim- merman said. "The weather's perfect and it's going great," Zimmerman said. "Everyone seems to be having a good time." Booths ranged from food items related to apples and An- telope Creek Farms out of Los Molinos, which provided gour- met salad dressings and cook- ing sauces, to unique metal ob- jects such as a Christmas tree made out of horseshoes. At another booth Beverly Thacker of Shingletown sat spinning fiber from her own animals in between answering questions about her hats and even jewelry made from what she had previously spun.
