They are now going through their new member program and will be initiated into our wonderful sisterhood on October 3 at the Reynolds Alumni Center. These women represent the future of our chapter and are wonderful additions to Omicron. They include women from eight states, three Golden Girls, 18 Alpha Phi legacies, and have an average GPA of 3.45. Nearly 1,900 women went through formal recruitment this year at Mizzou. For many alumnae, this is twice (or more) the number of potential new members (PMNs) than when we went through recruitment. Year after year, Mizzou has one of the largest formal recruitments in the nation. It's a real sign of the thriving Greek life at this university—one based in tradition with an amazing history and an even brighter future. In recent years, the format of recruitment has also changed: • Two days of Open House where PNMs visit every house • Two days of Philanthropy Rounds where the PNMs get tours of the houses and learn about each chapter's philanthropy • One Sisterhood Day where the chapters put on skits and showcase their talents and sisterhood • One day of Preference • Bid Day is the seventh day of recruitment Needless to say, it is an exhausting week for both the active members as well as those going through recruitment. This year, Bid Day was held at Faurot Field instead of on the Quad. A change in tradition like this is always met with some opposition, but moving the event to the football stadium gave the event a lot more space (which is needed when more than 2,000 people attend), a better sound system, and more security. After opening their bid cards, new members ran to groups of seniors who were waiting on the field to walk them back to each chapter's house. The theme of Bid Day was Walk This Way, a play on the Aerosmith song, with a rock 'n roll theme. It was a wonderful day and was unseasonably cool for Missouri in August. It was a great start to a new year for all members and a wonderful beginning for our new members' Alpha Phi experience. I am so lucky to serve this chapter alongside a great group of devoted volunteers who make up the advisory board. These women dedicate their time and energy to ensuring that the Omicron Chapter runs smoothly, is productive, and will be here for generations to come. We are always looking for volunteers for projects large and small, so if you are interested in getting involved in Alpha Phi, please send me an e-mail.
