Last spring, brothers Mark Berquist 1855 and Jack Alexander 1821 had the opportunity to study abroad in Canberra, Australia. During their time in Australia, they formed relationships with students from all over the world. The two were lucky to spend four months with amazing people from Finland, Sweden, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada, Thailand, and, of course, Australia. "We became very close friends with many of the 95 students on our exchange, and we can't even begin to explain how hard it was to leave them and the amazing country of Australia," said Mark. "This opportunity has truly been life-changing for us, and has only re-emphasized the importance of stepping outside our comfort zones to try something completely new." During their 16 weeks abroad, Mark and Jack traveled to many of the major cities along the eastern coast of Australia. They also went scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef and even took an 11-day road trip around New Zealand. They went skydiving, bungee jumping, mountain biking, surfing, and luging. "The experience was beyond incredible," said Jack, "and to share it with a brother of Phi Delta Theta only made it that much better. It brought us closer as friends and brothers, and made us realize how spectacular our world truly is. There's so much to explore and discover, and we've only just begun." PHI DELT IN THE OUTBACK T his year's Homecoming football game falls on Saturday, October 31, against the Texas Longhorns. The chapter has reserved a tent on the north side of Jack Trice Stadium and will host a tailgate and barbecue for alumni and their families. Additional information will be e-mailed as the date nears. We hope to see you there! JOIN PHI DELTA THETA FOR ISU HOMECOMING
