DDD page 5 Delta Xi to Be Recognized as Fastest Growing Fundraising Chapter T he Delta Xi Chapter of Delta Delta Delta is flourishing and thriving heading into the fall semester. To highlight this past year's accomplishments, I will start with our greatest achievement. As most of you are aware, Tri Delta has the honor of raising money to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Last school year, Delta Xi raised $115,271.35! This makes Delta Xi the fastest growing fundraising chapter in the nation and guarantees our spot among the top 10 fundraising chapters in the nation. We have been told we will be recognized at the annual St. Jude Conference held in February, but more importantly, the women of Delta Xi have never been more motivated to set new goals and raise funds for the kids we love and adore. We have also had one of our best recruitment years yet. With stellar daily return rates, the women of Delta Xi welcomed home 83 new members. We could not be more proud to have them represent our chapter for the next four years. The year is just beginning, but we are all excited to hit the ground running with philanthropy events, Homecoming, and much more. In the words of a Greek Life office member, "It is a great time to be a Tri Delta." Loyally, Ashley Kent '12 Chapter President, aekv23@mail.missouri.edu Last year, the chapter raised more than $100,000 for St. Jude, making Delta Xi the fastest growing fundraising chapter in the nation. Undergraduate Corner We Talk with Natalie Miller '12 Why did you decide to join Tri Delta? I came through recruitment not knowing anyone, but really enjoyed the conversations I had with the Tri Deltas. I fell in love with St. Jude as the sorority's philanthropy and knew this is where I belonged. What has your undergraduate experience meant to you? Tri Delta has brought me a support system and incredible friends over the last four years. This summer, both of my grandparents passed away and I had so many contacts from the girls, just to let me know they were thinking of me. What degree are you working on? I am pre-med, majoring in psychology and minoring in biology. Mizzou has a special pre-admission route for students from rural areas of Missouri, so I applied early and was accepted last summer to the University of Missouri School of Medicine. Where do you hope your studies will take you? I love working with kids, so remaining in Missouri and going into pediatrics is appealing. I would also love to go into ministry and work internationally in a country with less access to health care as a missionary doctor. Have you had international experience already? Yes, I went to Honduras last summer with Mizzou's Global Medical Brigade. We worked with doctors and dentists to set up clinics in villages and provide care. It was amazing to see the needs of the people there. I've taken two other service trips through the University as well. One to Texas, where we worked to clean lakes and rivers and build a hiking trail. Last winter break, I went to Charleston, South Carolina, where we worked in an after-school program helping children with their social and emotional learning skills. What leadership positions have you held at Mizzou? I've been a leader for Mizzou's alternative break trips, served as the Greek Week blood drive liaison, led Bible studies within the chapter, and was the president of Alpha Epsilon Delta, which is a pre-health professional honors society. Any favorite DDD memories? Last year we started the fundraiser Delta House of Pancakes. It was so much fun using our brand-new kitchen to make pancakes from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. There was music and a pancake eating contest, but the best part was serving other people and knowing the money we raised was going to St. Jude.
