Seen earlier this year in NBC's "The Slap," George will be back on that network during the new season as a heart-transplant surgeon in "Heartbreaker." It was supposed to be a fall starter, then George announced she was expecting her second child, so NBC is accommo- dating the pregnancy by pushing back "Heartbreaker" and moving up the debut of "Chicago Med" into the Tues- day slot on Nov. 10. Q : Seeing the ads for the new season of "Home- land," I was thinking of Claire Danes' first series, "My So-Called Life." I re- member it getting lots of acclaim, but I also remem- ber it didn't last very long. Why was that? — Jennifer Reeves, via e-mail A : It's true that the ABC show lasted only five months in 1994-95, and de- spite the generally excellent reviews it received, it wasn't a ratings success. By itself, that might not have killed the show, given the strong support from critics and the very vocal fans it did have ... but something else became a virtual deal-breaker for a second season. Danes let it be known she didn't want to return for a Season 2, and for all the distinctive characters the se- ries had, her Angela Chase really was the one everything and everyone else was built around. Series creator-writer Winnie Holzman (who would go on to write the book for the hit musical "Wicked") later said that once Danes wanted out, her own enthusiasm for doing the show was greatly diminished. Q : Is it true that Ben Affleck starred in a TV series? — Lisa Emery, Knoxville, Tenn. A : Just as his movie career was getting going with "School Ties" and "Dazed and Confused," Affleck played the son of a Texas town's new high-school football coach in NBC's "Against the Grain," sort of a precursor to "Friday Night Lights." The show lasted barely half a season in 1993, so it wasn't long before Affleck turned his attention back to movies ... which also included writing them, since a few years later, he and pal Matt Damon would win Oscars for their script for "Good Will Hunting" (in which they also starred).
