Tuesday, March 6, 2012 – Daily News Free immigration workshops set A meeting is being held today to help immigrants understand the benefits provided by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, such as naturalization, adjustment of status and employ- ment authorization. Red Bluff will hold two sessions, at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. today, at Sacred Heart Parish, 2355 Monroe Ave. The meetings are sponsored by the U.S. Citizenship and Immi- gration Services. Targeted rate reduction Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) announced Friday that it has asked state regulators for the right to offer a competi- tive electric rate to attract large employers to California and con- vince other large employers already in the state to maintain or expand their operations rather than leave. "Affordable, reliable power is more important than ever as an enabler of business and employment development in our state," said Tom Bottorff, Senior Vice President for Regulatory Relations at PG&E. "As a key contributor to California's economy, PG&E is committed to helping create and retain jobs here by offering appropriate incentives that will enhance our state's competitive- ness and make it 'golden' again." The proposed economic development rate targets large compa- nies—with power loads of at least 200 kilowatts—that have a choice of where to locate operations and hire employees. The rate would provide a 12 percent rate reduction for five years for those who avow that it is needed to enable them to site new operations, expand existing facilities, or stay in California. To address the more acute challenges faced by counties in PG&E's service area with unemployment rates at least 25 percent higher than the state average, the utility proposes a more signifi- cant rate reduction of 35 percent for five years. The new economic development rate is designed to meet today's challenges and would replace an existing program that PG&E began offering in 2005. The current program's rate reduc- tion has declined over time and it is scheduled to sunset at the end of 2012. Forest OHVprogram The State of California Department of Parks and Recreation and the Mendocino National Forest have maintained a successful partnership for over 29 years. This partnership has provided funding assistance for the man- agement of off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation on National Forest system lands through the California State OHV Grants and Cooperative Agreements Program. Current regulations mandated by the State of California require annual public participation in this fund allocation process. The purpose of this notice is to share information and to solic- it public input specific to the Mendocino National Forest's upcoming grant application for the 2012-2013 Grants and Coop- erative Agreements Program with the Off-Highway Motor Vehi- cle Recreation Division. The agreements support OHV manage- ment activities, with categories including Ground Operations (trail maintenance and facility operation and maintenance), Restoration and Law Enforcement. Preliminary applications will be available for review and com- ment via a link on the State of California website at www.ohv.parks.ca.gov under the Grants tab. Comments may be provided between March 6 and April 2.
