All born-again Chris- tians have the Holy Spirit living within them. The resurrec- tion power of God lives within us, and we are qualified by God to go about doing good, and healing all who are op- pressed by the devil, for God is with us! We can live in such a way that we are the hands of God, reaching out to those in need. "Not that we are suf- ficient of ourselves to think of anything as be- ing from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives light." (2 Corinthians 3:5,6). How wonderful. We are to follow Jesus' example, going about do- ing good whenever needs come to our attention, and we have the power to do something about it! Some will say, "I can- not fix everything for ev- eryone." That's true, but in reality we can do what we can do! We don't want to be like the priest and Lev- ite who had an opportu- nity to help the man who went from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and then departed, leaving him half dead. They chose to not get in- volved. The Good Samar- itan chose the right path to follow by taking care of the wounded man. We have all heard the saying, "What Would Jesus Do?" We know Jesus would have taken care of the man's need. Can we do any less? Perhaps we are capable of excusing ourselves, out of past practice, of not get- ting involved. "If a brother or sis- ter is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, 'Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,' but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works is dead" (James 2:15-17). Being unresponsive, in responding to the needs of others, is sin. "There- fore to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin" (James 4:1). "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith" (Gala- tians 6:9). Each one can help one, Each one can win a soul to Christ, Each one can give a Bible, Each one can teach one, Each one can feed one, Each one can pray with one, Each one can encourage one, Each one can heal one, in Je- sus Name, Each one can shelter one, Each one can provide blankets for the homeless on a cold winter night, Each one can give an extra coat, gloves, or a hat to one without, and Each one can minister the love of God into a hurt- ing and empty human be- ings life. Church programs, com- mittee meetings, short mission trips, community outreaches, world mis- sions, and etc. are needed and profitable! However, none of them removes the need for individual min- istry by each individual Christian! During our daily lives, we see and hear of needs all around us. We partic- ipate in the above named activities, and more. But, are we often like the priest and Levite? Let us ask our- selves how many times we have left the helping to someone else, or have just "traveled on" with our daily pursuits, neglect- ing the needs of those all around us. There are immediate needs that often go un- met because we are so busy with life. God under- stands our distractions, but even more, God sees hearts that desire to walk through life, following Je- sus' example. Be blessed in knowing that El Roi (God Who Sees) understands the times we cannot help, but He also sees hearts that may be lukewarm concerning His call upon their lives, to follow Jesus' example. There are serious de- cisions for each Chris- tian to make, especially in the world today that is saturated with distrac- tions. We each need to decide — what would Je- sus do, and will we fol- low Jesus' example in loving others? Will we live like the Good Samaritan, the priest or the Levite? Will we follow Jesus? She has ministered amongst various Native American communities for many years as well, carrying clothing and love gifts to children on the reservations she visits. GOD TALK Love your neighbors, know your neighbors By Kathy Matheson The Associated Press PHILADELPHIA The city's science museum was host- ing a blockbuster exhibit of Lego sculptures and prepar- ing to unveil a huge display of Holy See treasures for the pope's upcoming visit when administrators got a seren- dipitous inquiry. Would they like to see a model of the Vatican that a priest built entirely of Legos? "It's amazing," said Larry Dubinski, president and CEO of The Franklin Insti- tute, where the plastic brick structure is now on view in downtown Philadelphia. "People are in awe." The Rev. Bob Simon spent about 10 months con- structing a mini St. Peter's Basilica out of a half-million Legos. His architectural feat includes a Lego pope on a balcony overlooking the crowd in St. Peter's Square, which itself is made up of about 44,000 Lego pieces resembling cobblestones. A colorful cast of Lego characters populates the piazza, including a nun with a selfie stick and a bespectacled figurine of Simon. All told, the dis- play measures 14 feet by 6 feet and weighs about 100 pounds. "It was daunting," said Simon. "It was an exer- cise in patience, and I was thrilled with the way every- thing came out." Simon said he built his first, rather crude, Lego model of the Roman Cath- olic church's headquarters when he was in seventh grade. Today, he serves as pas- tor at St. Catherine of Siena church in Moscow, Penn- sylvania, about 100 miles north of Philadelphia. He's been to the real Vatican five times. To create the model, Si- mon used an image from a book cover as a guide. The hardest part was crafting the round basilica dome from square bricks, he said. Although he looked for hints by watching You- Tube videos, "I hardly un- derstood what I was watch- ing." "I'm also not really great at math, so I was daunted by that as well," he said. Yet he persevered. Us- ing Lego life preservers to replicate the dome's windows — one of many ways he repurposed vari- ous shapes — he delicately built the structure with- out glue. Denise Brownell, visiting the museum from Phoenix, was duly impressed. "It's just such a perfect replica of the real thing," said Brownell. "It's just awe- some." Simon started the proj- ect a year ago in an empty room in his rectory. He finished in time to bring it to BrickFair, a Lego convention held over the summer near Wash- ington, D.C., where it re- ceived many accolades. A friend then suggested The Franklin Institute might be interested. Simon's creation is be- ing displayed alongside "The Art of the Brick," an exhibit of Lego sculp- tures, and "Vatican Splen- dors," which opens Satur- day. The latter includes art, vestments and reli- gious relics from the Holy See. There are no plans for Pope Francis to see the Lego Vatican while he's in Philadelphia next weekend. But Simon hopes to see the pontiff: He will participate in the papal Mass on Sept. 27.
