JULIE ZEEB — DAILY NEWS By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter TEHAMA The Tehama County Museum held the 34th an- nual Tehama Jubilee Saturday where hundreds turned out for a day of fun with booths, exhibits and demonstrations taking place throughout the museum buildings and in the grassy area next to the build- ings. The theme was Vintage Mu- seum Summer Social, which was on display in the use of gingham in just about every corner of the event, said Te- hama County Museum Associ- ation President Chris Bauer. "The Jubilee is a combination of things," Bauer said. "First, it's to celebrate what we're do- ing and to allow the people who support the museum to get to- gether. We're here to celebrate Tehama County history and museums in general. Second, we don't get government funds so this is our main fundraiser for the year. Mostly, we're do- ing this event just to keep the doors open, but also we're mov- ing into the last phase of our three-phase project." The museum started the project with the re-pointing or stabilization of the bricks that make up their main building with the help of a grant from the McConnell Foundation. The second phase was to acquire and instll new windows, which they did in part thanks to a do- nation from Sierra Pacific of the windows and the installation of the windows was partly paid for through money received from Union Pacific. "We're seeing great support and we want them to know that we appreciate them," Bauer said. "The final part is a new roof and some of that we have raised from one large donation to the project, but we'll be seek- ing more donations. With the rain we're expecting, we need that roof." The roof will cost about $10,000 and the association hopes to get started shortly af- ter the Jubilee so as to have it in place before winter hits, Bauer said. The Jubilee wouldn't be pos- sible without the many volun- teers like the Central Tehama Kiwanis, the Red Bluff Commu- nity Band, Sweet Adeline's Cali- fornia Heat Chorus and the Los Molinos High School FFA and Key Club students, Bauer said. "We have a lot of people we don't hear from all year and right before the event we hear when is the Jubilee and what can I bake for the country store," Bauer said. A pancake breakfast put on by the Central Tehama Kiwanis started off the day and soldiers from the local club of the Re- Enactors of the American Civil War paraded around the event prior to raising the American flag out in front of the mu- seum. The Re-Enactors talked with visitors about the Civil War and taught 1850s games like Graces, a game meant to teach girls grace and poise, and Hunker, which is similar to tug of war with a few rules about how one stands and how to au- tomatically lose.
