Our youth today is plagued by a new set of issues uncommon to its previous generation. Economic instability, population growth, and job creation that is unable to keep up with job demand keep the younger generation either unemployed or underemployed in temporary or low-productivity jobs. These factors have led to younger generations starting their own businesses. Research has continually shown younger demographics interested in entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship programs at chambers of commerce, like the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) offered by the Chamber, provide a pivotal link between new and old generations of entrepreneurs. This mentorship allows young entrepreneurs to flourish and learn from successful community leaders. At the Chamber, we work with Cumberland County Schools, molding these leaders at a young age. We also have a partnership with Fayetteville Technical Community College, Methodist University and Fayetteville State University. YEA! works with these young entrepreneurs by inviting middle and high school students to develop business ideas, write business plans, conduct market research, pitch their plans to a panel of investors, and actually launch and run their own real, legal, fully formed companies and social movements. Students will also have the chance to market at the YEA! Tradeshow to create awareness -- generating sales and leads. And with speakers from the local community, students will hear firsthand how to be successful in their market and heed the advice of someone who was once in their shoes. YEA! will begin classes again this fall. Those wishing to participate should contact the YEA Coordinator, Amanda Erdman, aerdman@faybiz.com or (910) 433-6764 159 MAXWELL STREET, FAYETTEVILLE | (910) 483-8133 | FAYBIZ.COM STATE OF THE COMMUNITY LUNCHEON The Ramada Plaza Fayetteville Fort Bragg Area & Bordeaux Convention Center (formerly Holiday Inn Fayetteville-Bordeaux) 11:30a.m. -1 p.m. sept 15 EVENT SPONSORS: Gold Sponsor • Fayetteville Technical Community College • H & H Homes • Fayetteville State University • Up and Coming Weekly Silver Sponsor • CenturyLink Bronze Sponsors • Crown Complex • FirstHealth of the Carolinas • Jerome T.
