Indiana sigma Chapter THE BUSINESS OF BROTHERHOOD Weston Bohall '06 Recounts Indiana Sigma's Impact on His Journey to Personal and Professional Achievements W eston Bohall '06 reflects on his Indiana Sigma journey with joyful memories of working as a brotherhood to make a difference through community service activities, Homecoming, and tandem races. He still takes great pride in his Sigma Alpha Epsilon membership, as SAE was truly the best fraternity among many great fraternities at Indiana State. Weston has since earned his J.D. from the Valparaiso University School of Law, his LL.M. from the University of Denver, and is a tax attorney at Robinson & Henry, P.C. While Weston earned his formal education from outstanding institutions, he learned many of the essential skills of corporate culture through his SAE experience. He explains that the Indiana Sigma Chapter functions similarly to a major corporation. Roles such as the CEO, a board of directors, and shareholders are all mirrored by roles within the Chapter. "Being on the executive board at Indiana Sigma translated to my career as a tax attorney. As undergraduates, we were handed a tremendous opportunity to manage people and manage money at a young age," Weston explains. "These are things you cannot learn in a classroom." In addition to instilling the principles of business in members, Indiana Sigma served as an invaluable support system for young men. "By accepting a membership to SAE, you agree to live by the True Gentleman standard and hold yourself, and your brothers, to a high standard of propriety." Weston shares the importance of having brothers who will hold you accountable for your actions, ultimately molding one another into better men. "I know that to this day, my brothers would be there for me in a heartbeat if I needed them." Although Weston and his fiancée, Sophie, live in Denver, he is still able to keep in contact with most of his brothers through texting, social media, and occasional visits. "When I get to see my brothers, it is an emotional experience. We essentially ran a business together and developed a code of living—this took hold of us at a young age and the bonds will impact us for the rest of our life." Weston received a sign of brotherly support when he was at one of his most trying points in life. During law school, Weston had very little money, so he lived in an extremely run-down apartment; the building had seen everything from fires to stabbings, but it was all that Weston could afford. In the evenings, Weston was haunted by dark shadows, aggressive sounds, and objects flying out of the walls at him. "I didn't want to tell anyone about what was happening," Weston explained. "I have never believed in supernatural activity, and I knew that people would think that I was crazy." After living in fear for several months, Weston broke down and called out to his late SAE brother, Chris Gonzales '08, for help. Weston explained, "I felt Chris's presence, and all of the horrors I had been living among immediately stopped and never occurred again. I know that my brother was watching out for me." Among all of the values instilled by Indiana Sigma, Weston feels a sense of overwhelming gratitude for the support of his brothers. Weston proudly c a r r i e s t h e gift of SAE brotherhood c l o s e t o his heart throughout his personal and professional endeavors.
