With Orland, Anderson and Sutter, Division-II it could be argued is as stacked with as much talent and depth as Division-I. That could leave it hard for the Cardinals to duplicate the success they had at last year's D-I divisionals when they qualified wrestlers in 13 out of 14 weight classes for the Masters and took third place overall behind Chico and Paradise. Chico should likely repeat as the D-I champions. They blew away the competition at last week's Eastern Athletic League-North championships. Paradise, who won the EAL-South convincingly would seem to be the team most likely to have a shot to challenge. Taking Corning's spot in D-I this year is West Valley, who bring a power 1-2 punch in the heavyweight divi- sions. A year ago Red Bluff's Dillon Reid defeated Corning's Calvin Meister in the 162-pound final and the Spartans qualified eight wrestlers for Masters. A lack of depth this season will likely hold back the Spartans as a team, but they could receive a few standout individual performances. Divisions I and II will qualify six wrestlers each for the Northern Section Masters Championships. The remaining four spots will go to Divisions III and IV. A look at Saturday's divisional finals: Division-I (Chico, Enterprise, Foothill, Las Plumas, Oroville, Paradise, Pleasant Valley, Red Bluff, Shasta, West Valley) 106: Shasta's Matt Smull is ranked 21st in the state and won the North. Paradise's Logan Hoskins took the South. Red Bluff's Marco Gonzalez will look for a Masters spot. 113: Defending champion Jaxon Fitzgerald, from Daily News photo by Rich Greene Red Bluff's Cori Schatz gets ready to take a shot on Senior Night. Schatz along with fellow seniors Ashley Brown, Lottie Jones, Alana Hinkston, Krista Rodriguez and Mariah Smith combined to score the first 20 Spartans points in an 85-55 win over Las Plumas. Red Bluff improved to 14-10 on the season and 7-5 in the Eastern Athletic League-South.They close their sea- son on Tuesday at Oroville. Los Molinos holds off Hamilton on Senior Night Foothill, won the North and is ranked No. 20 in the state. Paradise freshman Wyatt Wycoff is an honorable mention in the state rankings and knocked off Red Bluff's Marco Rodriguez for the South title. 120: A loaded division in the Northern Section. Zeke Andrade (Foothill) was the North champion and Oroville's Nate McInturf was the South champion. Andrade is ranked 14th in the state and McInturf is 24th. 126: Oroville's Michael Ripley failed to make weight at the league meet leaving the division wide open for Par- adise's Blaine Shaw, a state ranked wrestler himself to defeat Red Bluff's Jordan McManus in the South final. In the North, Foothill's Mason Sauseda is ranked 17th in the state and won a division title last year. 134: Top wrestlers include Shasta's Joe Holcomb, Oroville's Lake Gee and Chico's Jesse Chambers, who won last year's title. 138: Pleasant Valley's Derek Tenckoff ranked 16th in the state won the North. Red Bluff's Armando Aguilar was fourth in the South. 145: Red Bluff's Kyle Case, who won the South cham- pionship will have to knock off the state's 9th ranked 145- pounder and defending champion Pang Lee from Chico, who won the North. 152: Foothill's Dallas Poston won the North and is ranked 10th in the state. Chico's Cordero Rios is 39th. Matt Gabb from Paradise won the South by defeating Red Bluff's Gabe Rivera. 160: Red Bluff's Tucker Gulliford was runner-up in the South. Chico's Patrick McCampbell is the favorite after winning the North. 170: Perhaps Red Bluff's best shot for an individual title. Bryce Eggert was the South champion. His competi- tion will come from Chico's Teddy Staiger, who won the North. Both are honorable mentions in the state rankings. 182: William Strain finished fourth for Red Bluff in the North. Las Plumas' Jariah Booker missed the league meets, but should be back. Oroville's Bruce Pagenkopp took the South. 195: Chico's Alex Campos is ranked 11th in the state and won the North. The South was won by Paradise's Izzy Welsh. 220: West Valley's Austin Lobsinger is the defending state champion. 285: West Valley's Scott Nelson is ranked 9th in the state. Chico's Max Bristow is an honorable mention. Stamkos made it 4-4 on his league-leading 39th goal from the slot 2:44 into the third. Tampa Bay's Dwayne Roloson made 45 saves, including five in overtime. Niemi stopped 19 shots. Vlasic got his first goal in 17 games at 14:37 of second and White stopped a person- al 148-game goal drought, dating to Dec. 28, 2009, 67 seconds later as San Jose went ahead 4-3.
