He was launched at Wickenberg and was heading back to Riverside where they live. He said that he had reached 11k alti- tude on his way over. He was plan- ning to land at Oldham's air fi eld on the west side of town, but after looking at it he said there were too many obstacles there, so he came over to ours. I drove over to fl y and as I pulled in a lady came running up to me and asked if a sailplane could use the fi eld. I said this fi eld is a model airplane fi eld. About that time I Sailplane landing at RC Airfield looked to the west and there was a 32ft wingspan sailplane about 40ft above the ground coming in for a downwind landing. I said, "Heck yes! He can use our fi eld!" He touched down at about the edge of our shack and stayed right on the white line. Pretty fast downwind landing, but he got her stopped about 15 yds from the end of the fi elds. Bill Henle took some pictures lat- er with the sailplane sitting on the fi eld. Mary and I and Bill helped take the wings off and loaded them on the trailer. The pilot said he can load the fuselage himself. As it was getting dark we said our goodbyes and went home. Not always so calm here in the furnace land! | B H The new Quartzsite Youth Council hosted the fi rst local National Dance Day on Saturday, July 25th, 2015 at the Community Center. National Dance Day was created as a day to raise awareness about and encourage Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and combat obesity. National Dance Day was launched in 2010 by "So You Think You Can Dance" co-creator and Dizzy Feet Foundation co-president Nigel Lyth- goe. It was founded and offi cially recognized in 2010 when American congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton introduced a National Dance Day resolution to promote dance education and physical fi tness.
