I told him that my daughter was born at 1 1/4 lbs. and struggled to survive against all odds. I was told that in some places babies that small should be left to die because of the cost of their care. I feel that if I had given up on her I would have missed the most wonderful experience of my life, and that is how I feel about some of the plants that need so much extra effort--they all deserve to live. I will sorely miss "Old Grand- SAGUARO CON'T FROM PAGE 12 pa" and the planting experience we had with him, and all the times I talked to it about what it must have seen over the 200+ years it lived. The stories it could tell!! We will sterilize the space around it, and some- day will put something else there, but it will never be the same as this one beautiful and determined saguaro who beat the odds for so long. I want to thank Dennis Wilskey, Dana Anderson and all the other Town workers who have helped me with removing this huge old friend, and for all the work they have done in the Gardens, even when they thought I was crazy for some of the things, they have been a godsend now that I cannot do as much as I used to. Thank you so much!!
