p. 3 SIGMA PHI EPSILON W e are honored to welcome everyone back for the fall semester at UT and are excited to get things underway. Texas Alpha Academics Over the last several semesters, we have worked tirelessly to boost our academic standing amongst IFC fraternities on campus and we are now ranked number two out of 27 active chapters, boasting a 3.3387 GPA. This is higher than both the all-undergraduate GPA (3.212) and the all-Greek GPA (3.2801), and a tremendous increase from just one year ago when we ranked sixth with an average of 3.218. Competitive Summer Recruitment This summer, our recruitment efforts were spearheaded by VP of Recruitment Nick Lednicky '16, who oversaw a tremendously competitive recruitment process to pick the next incoming class. We are confident that Nick and the recruitment team have picked members capable of upholding the Texas Alpha name. Conclave 2015 From August 12-16, undergraduates and alumni attended the 54th Grand Chapter Conclave in Nashville, Tennessee, where we considered legislation affecting the current bylaws of the national fraternity and honored those chapters and individuals that help make SigEp the best fraternity nationwide. We brought 13 undergraduates to represent the chapter, along with a large number of Texas Alpha alumni. We appreciate the Texas Alpha Educational Foundation, which made the trip possible, and members took the opportunity to play a pivotal role in how fraternity operations will continue for the next two years. Additionally, we thank the volunteers who traveled with us, Lynn Butler '88 and Mark A. Kiester '71. Texas Alpha Alumni Recognized We would like to congratulate Bruce Anderson '72, Jerry Smith '79, and Randy Staff '69 for the recognition they received from the national fraternity during our annual trip to Carlson Leadership Academy in Oklahoma City last February. For the second year in a row, Brother Anderson will serve as one of five regional annual fund chairmen. Jerry and Randy were both honored with the SigEp Distinguished Alumnus Award for their work with the Texas Alpha AVC and the Texas Tech AVC, respectively. We are proud to have such involvement from members of Texas Alpha, even after their time spent in the chapter as undergraduates. Successful Chapter Events In April, we hosted a blood drive organized by Parker Schramm '16 with participation from around 30 actives. We were also delighted to see tremendous attendance for our annual spring Parents Weekend. Thank you to VP Taylor Epperson '16 for organizing the event and ensuring everything ran as smoothly as possible. Additionally, the chapter held its annual Senior Dinner to honor those who have been involved with the chapter throughout their entire tenure at UT. The men of Texas Alpha are euphoric with the continued success of the chapter. Because of strong leadership, involvement, and alumni support, we will undoubtedly remain one of UT's most elite fraternities. Thank you to all parties that continue to support the chapter, as none of this would be possible without your generosity. Please be sure to attend one of our upcoming events listed above!
