Jim Nielsen, R-Gerber, have been fined $13,000 and $10,000 respectively for campaign finance violations stemming from Wil- liams' unsuccessful 2012 run for the California Assembly. The California Fair Political Practices Commission released a report this week on its website detailing "an earmarked, over- the-limit contri- bution" to Wil- liams' campaign totaling $4,320 to pay for a ra- dio advertisement supporting Wil- liams. Individual contributions are limited to $3,900, which Nielsen made. The larger contribution was made through the Tehama County Republican Central Committee and was ear- marked for Williams in violation of campaign finance law, the re- port said. In addition, Nielsen filed a campaign statement for the first half of 2012 "erroneously report- ing information regarding that contribution," the report said. "We are pleased to resolve a complaint filed by a political consultant working for an op- posing candidate after 3 ½ years and much expense," said Charles Bell, treasurer for Taxpayers for Jim Nielsen. "In their settlement agreement, the FPPC acknowl- edges that only a minor contribu- tion related to this politically mo- tivated complaint was incorrectly reported and that all other contri- butions that were a part of this complaint were both lawful and correctly disclosed by the com- mittees involved." "Every year (Speedco) give donations to the foundation and continues the competi- tion," said Marketing Man- ager Katie Allen. "Corning won in 2014. I think they actually were a couple thousand dol- lars ahead of the second place team." The donations are from customers and promotions Speedco, which does truck lube and tire service, has through- out the year. "They have a campaign ev- ery year where all the Speedco stores have a competition that raises money for Make a Wish," said Michele Flynn of the Make a Wish foundation. "The store that raises the most money wins the competition and then Speedco National gives a grant to adopt a wish in that area." When a child is referred to the foundation they are asked to give three wishes, to keep the element of surprise for the children.
