4 The DELTA PSI SIG T he active brothers at Delta Psi are thrilled with our strong finish for the spring 2015 semester. The past year was packed full of service, development, and recruitment events, and it all went by quick. Along the way, academics were not forgotten. The chapter's spring GPA was the second highest among 30 fraternities, and both our term and cumulative GPAs now exceed the all-men's average. We are all immensely proud of our achievements and are excited to get back to the Pomeroy Chapter House at 58 Pinewoods after the summer break. Delta Psi Raises $20,000 for Hunstman Cancer Foundation This year's Derby Days was the most impressive that the chapter has seen in recent history. We raised $20,000 for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation under the leadership of Derby Days Chairman Cory Sago '16 and the hard work of all of our brothers. All funds will go directly to cancer research. Our $20,000 was more than double our chapter's previous record, and positioned Sigma Chi as the top fundraising Greek organization on campus. Derby Days raised this money both through individual donations and a week of exciting events where teams of girls fiercely competed. As a result, both of our incredible monetary achievement from the strong involvement of the campus, we are confident that Derby Days has the foundation to continue in future years. Brothers Reconnect at Alumni Weekend We enjoyed having several alumni back to the chapter house for our alumni weekend in April. Brothers played lawn games in the sunny weather and feasted on the delicious barbecue of our new chef, Mike Volpe. Having alumni involved with the undergraduates is fun, but also helps remind us of the true lifelong commitment that comes with brotherhood in Sigma Chi. In the fall, we look forward to seeing our alumni not just at summer Work Party and the 65th Anniversary Homecoming, but also at our recruitment alumni dinner and at the initiation in November. We are enormously grateful for the support that alumni have shown us this year and know that it will be just as crucial in the year to come. Chris Higley '16 Receives Greek Man of the Year Award As the spring semester concluded, the Delta Psi Chapter was again honored with recognition as a five-star chapter at Rensselaer. Individual brothers were also honored: Bob "Justa" Eckert '73 won Chapter Advisor of the Year, John "Spanky" Spangenberger '15 received Greek Servant Leader of the Year, and I won Greek Man of the Year. While this reflects our high achievements, we aim even higher for the coming year. Progress will not come from sticking to the status quo, but requires careful change. In recognition of this, undergraduates voted to enroll the chapter in the trial preparation for brotherhood program, which seeks to standardize pledging across Sigma Chi chapters. The transition will be a challenge, but will allow us to help shape the program to its final form and ultimately be better prepared for the future. We look forward to taking that task and numerous others head on in the fall. We'll see you in August.
