PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse group of patriots from every state that come together to honor fallen soldiers at funeral services across the country. Visit www. patriotguard.org for more information about the group. Birds of a feather flock together and so do motorcyclists. It is always fun to meet up with other bikers and go for a ride. Whether it is planned or you just meet a stranger on the road, communicating is very important. Failure to com- municate can be confusing, frustrating or tragic. Knowing motorcycle hand signals can help communicate everything from a pothole to needing gas. Riding with one person or hundreds of people, it is up to each rider to relay signals back to the next rider. Here are the some of the most common hand signals. Remember to allow yourself space and distance in case of an unexpected stop. Never ride side-by-side. It may look and feel cool, but it only takes a strong crosswind or a dog running out in front of you for you and your friend to crash into each other. Don't forget to use your bike's true signals. Brake early. Remember to flash your lights to warn others of your presence. Stay alert and stay alive.
