Canine (K9) Wodan Von Haus Silma is a four year old German Shepherd that was imported from Europe. Wodan (pronounced Vodan) was do- nated to the Quartzsite Police Department by Adlerhorst International Kennels from Riverside, California. Offi cer Tanakeyowma contact- ed Adlerhorst International via email and expressed to them our need for a Narcotic Detection Dog in our area due to the town being located in a heavy drug corridor. Adlerhorst International returned an email and agreed to donate Wodan to our department at no cost to the Town of Quartzsite. Canine Handler Offi cer Villafana and Wodan attended a fi ve week training course for narcotics de- tection with the Arizona Depart- ment of Public Safety K9 Divi- sion. The training was free and the only cost accrued was meals and hotel costs. On May 2, 2015, Wodan successfully completed a certifi cation course with honors and became a State of Arizona certifi ed Narcotic Detection Dog. Wodan is trained to detect four dif- ferent odors to include Marijuana, Cocaine, Heroin and Methamphet- amine. Wodan is also trained in handler protection, which means he will aggressively protect his han- dler at all costs up to giving his own life. Wodan is one of four Narcotic Detection Dogs in La Paz County and will be made available to any agency that needs him to include the Arizona Highway Patrol, La Paz County Sheriff's Offi ce, Parker Po- lice and the Colorado River Indian Tribes Police Department. Quartzsite Police Department proudly announces and introduces Wodan and feels he will be a great addition to the Police Department and the surrounding law enforce- ment agencies. Canine QPD Offi cer Ruben Villafana is excited to have a loyal partner. Chief Renfro feels the team will be an asset to the Town of Quartzsite and will assist with drug detection in the commu- nity. Wodan is looking forward to completing his mission as a Canine Offi cer for the Quartzsite Police Department.
