It's a very special place, especial- ly to America's military veterans, their families and friends. One day in the not too distant future, five new memorials will be incre- mentally added to these hal- lowed grounds. One memo- rial for each of the five mil- itary services, including the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard. They will be placed geo- metrically around the cemetery's main flag circle, the favored site of such pro- grams as Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Wreaths Across America. In November 2011, Sec- retary Peter J. Gravett, Cal- ifornia Department of Vet- erans Affairs, formally approved the service memorial project concept. Included in this approval was the go-ahead to begin work on the first of the five service memorials, this one dedicated to the men and women of the United States Air Force. If things go as planned, a dedication cere- mony of the Air Force memorial is slated for 2013. "Although it will be the first service-oriented mon- ument at the state-operated facility, it will likely not be the last," said Stephen Jor- gensen, cemetery adminis- trator. Arrests • Rebecca Faith Loftis, 27, of Anderson was arrested Thursday at the Red Bluff rest area off northbound Interstate 5. Loftis was in a black 2000 Ford Mustang that was pulled over just after 3 p.m. The second passen- ger in the vehicle was released on scene. Loftis was charged with posses- sion and trafficking of a controlled substance, pos- session and trafficking of a narcotic and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $83,000. • Jack Arviso, 45, of Red Bluff was arrested Wednesday in the 20800 block of Woodlawn Street. He was charged with violation of parole and is being held without bail. • Keven Paul Marcum, 48, of Red Bluff was arrested Thursday in the 12000 block of Highway 99W by drug task force agents. He was charged with trafficking of nar- cotics. Bail was set at $50,000. • Tabitha Marie Shaf- al, a symbol of the Air Force's history and mis- sion, is titled "Into the Wild Blue Yonder." When con- structed, it will include a bronze globe 6 feet in diam- eter resting atop a 3-foot- high pyramid with an 8- foot square base. Encircling the globe and thrusting 6 to 8 feet upward will be a stainless steel contrail or aircraft path ending in a del- toid-shaped aerospace vehi- cle. Topic is Screenwriting Basics. Theft • A caller reported Thursday returning to an apartment on Lakeside Drive to find all the belongings gone. A grand theft report was taken. • Items were reported stolen Thursday from an unlocked vehicle in the 100 block of Corona Avenue. About $225 in cash and a Fuji DSLR camera were stolen between 8 p.m. Wednes- day and 3 a.m. Thursday from a 2005 Chevrolet. • A caller reported Thursday that someone had tried to remove the battery from her maroon 2007 Chevrolet Impala in the 23200 block of Orangewood Road in Corning. The culprit(s) also took $107 worth of compact discs and other items from inside the unlocked vehicle. Becker swerved right to avoid, but still hit one of the cows, causing the BMW to run off the south road edge and up an embankment where it flipped onto its roof and slid to a stop. The BMW had major damage. Hit and run • CHP is looking for the driver and vehicle involved in a hit and run at 4:57 a.m. Thursday on Hall Road, north of Dale Avenue. The vehicle was going south on Hall when for unknown reasons it went off the road edge, hit a mailbox and T-post and fled the scene, continuing south on Hall.
