ByMarilynAdams Haveyouever felt restless or dis- quieted? Disquieted means a feeling of anxiety or worry. The thesaurus uses these words: un- ease, worry, anxiety, concern, disquietude; perturbation, consterna- tion, upset, malaise, angst; agitation, restlessness, fretfulness. Circumstances don't produce restlessness. Our thoughts are the culprit. We become what we think about. Proverbs 23:17 says that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Disquiet is the opposite of peace. Isaiah 26:3 says, "You will keep him in per- fect peace, whose mind is stayed upon You, because he trusts in You." Trust is staying focused on the character of the Lord in the midst of turbulent cir- cumstances. The fruit of trust is peace. When we feel restless, it is because our trust is under attack. We are be- ing tempted to lean on our own understanding. We are being pulled away to search for ways we can ap- pease the unrest. Don't let your thoughts stray. Pull them back and keep them corralled. That is what 2 Corinthians 10:5 is say- ing. We are to take every thought captive. Proverbs 3:5 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding." Matthew 11:29 says, "Come unto Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Years ago I wrote out an acrostic for trust. To Rest Under Sore Trial. When we feel restless or disquieted, we have One we can go to. He is the Prince of Peace. John 14:27 says, "Peace, I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Philippians 4:6-7 says, "Be anxious for noth- ing, but in everything by prayer and supplica- tion, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which sur- passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Je- sus." These two verses are again speaking about how we think. Our thoughts dictate our actions. When we allow our thoughts to wander, they can lead us into disquieting paths. Is- rael's king, David, is in- structing his son concern- ing who will be the next king. 1 Chronicles 28:9 says, "As for you, my son, Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever." The Am- plified says, "...and under- stands the wanderings of the thoughts." God knows every one of your thoughts. Psalm 139:1-2 says, "O Lord, You have searched me and known me, You know my sitting down and my ris- ing up; You understand my thought afar off." Verse four says, "For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether." There is nothing in your life that is hidden from God. He knows every thought before you think it, and He understands your intentions. Hebrews 4:12 says that God's word is powerful and it will help us to discern our own thoughts. That is good news. We are not left to ourselves, nor our destruc- tive thoughts that lead to destructive actions. We have One who is ready to help. We can trust Him be- cause He is trustworthy. If you have never put your trust in Jesus Christ, I encourage you to be- lieve in Him today. Ro- mans 10:13 says, "For who- ever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Trusting is believing and acting on God's words of truth. I urge you to call out to Him and believe His word for yourself. 1 Samuel 12:21 says, "And do not turn aside; for then you would go after empty things which can- not profit or deliver, for they are nothing." Don't reject the only One who can save you from the wrath to come. Hebrews 3:15 says, "...today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion." In this mes- sage you just read, He is calling you to Himself. Will you answer His call of love? MarilynAdamsaccepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in 1958. Through that crucible of affliction, the Lord wooed her into intimacy, teaching her timeless truths that sustain her, and permeate her teachings. GOD TALK Trust under attack: taming restlessness MarilynAdams CORNING Neighborhood Full Gospel Church of Corn- ing would like to invite ev- eryone to celebrate Father's Day. During the morning ser- vice at 10:45, the church will be having a represen- tative from Gideons Inter- national bring a presenta- tion and during the evening service, at 6, the Rev. John Pastor will be bringing the message. There is Sunday School for all ages at 9:30 a.m. The church is at First and South streets in Corn- ing. For more information, call 824-2323. CORNING ChurchtoofferFather'sDaycelebration By Philipp-Moritz Jenne and Jill Lawless The Associated Press BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA Prime Minister David Cameron charged Friday that some British Muslims quietly condone the radi- cal ideology of the Islamic State group, prompting ac- cusations that he is scape- goating the large and di- verse community. Speaking at a secu- rity conference in Slova- kia, Cameron urged Brit- ish Muslims to do more to stop the group from re- cruiting young Britons. He said disaffected youths are being drawn to an ideol- ogy that believes "the West is bad and democracy is wrong, that women are inferior, that homosexual- ity is evil." Saying this ideology "is quietly condoned" among some Muslims, Cameron blamed radicalization in part on "people who hold some of these views who don't go as far as advo- cating violence, but who do buy into some of these prejudices, giving the ex- treme Islamist narrative weight." About 2.7 million of Brit- ain's 64 million people are Muslim. Police say at least 700 of them have traveled to IS territory, including a 17-year-old who blew him- self up in Iraq last week and three sisters from northern England believed to have gone to Syria with their nine children. Some Muslim groups re- acted to Cameron's com- ments with anger. Moham- med Shafiq, chief executive of Muslim think-tank the Ramadhan Foundation, called them "deeply offen- sive." "We do not need a lec- ture about being good cit- izens from a government that thinks the way to build alliances with the Muslim community is to trash us," he said. Opposition lawmaker Yasmin Qureshi accused Cameron of conflating religious conservatism with support for extrem- ism. "To make the comparison he has done the way he has done, it is not only unhelp- ful but actually wrong," she told BBC radio. Others defended Camer- on's message. Haras Rafiq, managing director of anti- extremism think tank the Quilliam Foundation, said he didn't see the speech as anti-Islam. "He is not saying that all Muslims are the problem," Rafiq said. "He is saying the Islamist ideology needs to be tack- led." And Kalsoom Bashir, who heads the counter-rad- icalization group Inspire, said Cameron has a point that some British Muslims have a degree of "sympa- thy, empathy and envy for the people who are going out to Syria." "Just as we dismiss the Ku Klux Klan as a loony fringe of Christianity, we need to be back in a place where we can dis- miss this ideology as a loony fringe of Islam," she said. "But unfortunately it's becoming mainstream. I think that fightback has to come from within the com- munities as well."
