Keeping Close with Kappa Alpha Χ Ω 5 T he past semester Kappa Alpha was extremely busy, but accomplished some exciting things. We started off our semester by participating in our spring philanthropy and closed the semester by celebrating 100 years of Kappa Alpha at Kansas State University. As sisters, we have grown closer than ever through such great times! At the beginning of this semester all Kappa Alpha members participated in the spring philanthropy, Chi O casino, which supports the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Actives partook in the festivities as dealers and waitresses for our guests. The event was a huge success. We raised over $8,000, which is the most money we've ever raised for a philanthropy event! As the semester continued, our Centennial committee worked hard to create an unforgettable event. As Kappa Alpha turned 100, we were thankful for the opportunity to celebrate with active members and alumnae. The undergraduate sisters were also honored to host our special guests, Shelley Potter, Xi Kappa '75 and Lyn Harris, Phi Gamma '80. It was a great pleasure to have them both able to celebrate this time with us as well as speak at our luncheon. Thank you to all alumnae for your attendance and support! Overall, this semester was one for the books for Kappa Alpha. We are so very lucky that we have been able to continue our journey here at KSU. We are already hard at work making preparations for recruitment in the fall. We look forward to welcoming our 100th new member class! Lovingly Yours in Chi Omega, Ashton Moore '13 ashton1@ksu.edu (620) 2253-0881 Undergraduate Sisters Prepare to Welcome Kappa Alpha's 100th New Member Class Ω roommates three times a year, sneaking into the kitchen, looking over the balcony to watch dates arrive, and having a friend no matter day or night. It was a home away from home for me because my dad was stationed overseas and my mother was with him. I could not visit or call them. Chi O was my home." – Janora Sigley Apple '66 "I remember things like the buzzer phone call system, playing bridge in the blue lounge, Kites after Wednesday night chapter meetings with my sisters, phone duty and door duty." – Monte-Jane Mitten '70 "Singing shades on bid night always gave me goose bumps. I loved laying out on the hill next to the patio in early spring to get a tan with my sisters." – Cheryl Zinn Golden '70 "I have lots of wonderful memories from Kappa Alpha! I loved late night Vista runs. I am still thankful for my pledge mom, who is now in my wine club and book club." – Judy Simpson Zimbelman '70 "On preference night of August 1977 I committed to Chi Omega. That decision shaped my life 'to be woman always, discouraged never.' It also brought the gift of my dearest best friend Karen Lickteig Hummer '78. She is the true sister I never had. Thank you for hosting an incredible celebration." – Gail Pennybecker '78 "During 2013 work week, we found a bat in the house! It was funny working as a group to safely to catch and release the bat! I loved planning the Chi O Casino and Candy Cane Lane!" – Kelli Reese '13 "I will never forget opening my bid card and finding out I was a Chi Omega along with my lifelong best friend. It was an honor getting chosen to speak during preference round to share what Chi Omega means to me." – Kristin Nycklemae '14 "We were so excited to win Derby Days in 2015 and screaming 'We're #1 O-N-E cause we're Chi C-H-I Omega! We're Chi Omega!' all though the hallways. Spring break gulf shores trip was fantastic, too!" – Jessica Nesbit '14
