E-mail: kentliv@gmail.com Winstan "Bud" Sellick '44 Enters Chapter Eternal O n Monday, March 30, Beta Zeta lost one of our greatest, most loyal alumni. Bud Sellick passed away of natural causes in Stratford, Connecticut. Below is a partial excerpt from his obituary. "Bud Sellick typified all that was best in the greatest generation. American by birth and Marine by choice, Sellick, 93, served the cause of freedom during World War II on Okinawa and in Korea less than a decade later. Like many in his generation, he believed passionately in the concepts of duty, honor, and country. He and his college sweetheart enjoyed a marriage of 69 years. He gave back to his community and supported his beloved Butler Bulldogs with endowed scholarships and philanthropic contributions. He was a genuine people person who left the world far better than he had originally found it." We at Beta Zeta sadly say farewell to a faithful and loyal servant of our chapter and Butler University. FIRST ON CAMPUS TO HOST A SAFE SPACE TRAINING The chapter participated in a variety of activities throughout the spring. My personal favorite was the service event at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, attended by more than half of the chapter. It was inspiring to see 70 brothers working toward a common goal. We also hosted a safe space training for members of the chapter. The goal of safe space training is to make our Shelter a safer and more accommodating place for the LGBT community. We are the first Butler Greek organization to host such an event, and I am immensely proud of that. CAMPUS LEADERSHIP A PRIORITY We recently compiled a list of campus involvements from the brothers, and we found that more than 50% of our members hold leadership positions in campus organizations, which is far more than any other fraternity or sorority. We accepted the Butler University Award for Excellence in Campus Leadership. This, combined with having the Butler Greek Man of the Year, the Butler Emerging Leader of the Year, and receiving our chapter's eleventh Hugh Shields Award, shows how seriously we take leadership and involvement. It is a great time to be a Beta Zeta Delt. As we continue to exhibit excellence on campus and nationally through academics and leadership, we realize that we are walking on the path beaten by those before us. Without all of our alumni, I cannot imagine where we would be now. If you ever find yourself in Indianapolis, please come by the Shelter—it would be my honor to give you a tour. Thank you for your support in the past, and for your support into the future. Fraternally, Sam Thomas '17 Chapter President sjthoma1@butler.edu BETA ZETA RAISES $30,000 (Continued from page 3)
