Now that the construction portion of the Shelter project is complete, school is out, and schedules are less busy, the House Corporation can now focus discussions on landscaping, an open house event, alumni recognition, summer tenant possibilities, continued budget analysis, and preparing for the fall semester. From each of us on the House Corporation and advising team, we cannot thank our alumni and undergraduates enough for such an incredible year. We are seeing history in the making, and each one of us is playing a key part. Beta Zeta Places First (Continued from page 1) PRESIDENT'S CORNER T he spring of 2015 has brought about great change for the Beta Zeta Chapter. Moving into the newly renovated Shelter and the Matt White Wing has pushed our capacity from 35 to 64. Nearly two full pledge classes are able to live in the Shelter together, and the full benefits of that are only just beginning to be fully explored. Finally, we received our eleventh Hugh Shields Award for Chapter Excellence at the 2015 Northern Division Conference—a tangible reminder of all that we have accomplished and all that we still can accomplish. We have come a long way with academics, philanthropy, and programming, but there is always room for improvement. GPA JUMPS .04 POINTS We had our best academic semester in years last fall, finishing second out of five chapters. More importantly, we had a chapter GPA of 3.347, up .04 points from the previous semester—an incredible level of improvement. We continue to implement "The League" competition program to encourage excellence in academics. TRIKE EVENT A SUCCESS As is tradition, we held Trike in benefit of the Ed Seaver Fund and the General Benefit Fund of Riley Children's Hospital. Trike races, queen competitions, lip sync competitions, and a benefit banquet helped us reach our goal of raising $30,000, showing our chapter's commitment to our philanthropy. 35 NEW MEMBERS In January, the chapter voted to extend 35 bids to men that we considered worthy of our brotherhood, and in what is almost unseen at Butler University, all 35 bids were accepted. On March 21, we had the distinct honor of initiating 35 incredible young men. Their initiation was the culmination of months of hard work by Recruitment Chairman Taylor Clark '15 and New Member Educator Luke Shadiow '15. Our commitment to excellence in recruitment through weekly meetings going through a 200-person name list and a Delt qualities list has paid off. T hanks to the influence of senior Delts, Dustin Sickinger '05 made the wise decision to join the Beta Zeta Chapter, a decision that has shaped many aspects of his life for the better. As an undergraduate, Dustin's passion for DTD and Beta Zeta Chapter was formed through close relationships with his brothers. He was elected, and proudly served the chapter as pledge educator. "My pride is only in the men that I get to call my brothers. My pride is only in the fact that I recruited and continue to recruit better men than me, who have done far more for the fraternity, their communities, and the lives they touch." As an undergraduate, many alumni, especially Pat Gibbons, University of Cincinnati '84, positively impacted Dustin's Delt experience. "Pat, in many ways, was the trailblazer for so many other involved alumni volunteers we have had since then. I rarely enjoyed receiving my academic line chart from Pat, but I've always had great admiration and respect for Pat and the time, talent, and treasures he generously bestows upon the fraternity." Dustin communicates with at least one, if not several, Delts every day. "I look at so many of my brothers as an extension of my family, so I stay in touch with them as I do my family." As a realtor for Keller Williams Realty, Dustin gets the opportunity to help many Delts with their real estate needs. DTD has been instrumental in Dustin's journey so far, and continues to help him grow. "DTD continues to help me become who I am today. From my closest brothers to the House Corporation, the undergraduate chapter, and the international chapter—all of what Delta Tau Delta has to offer helps me become a better version of myself. It's a lifelong membership and journey as a brother, and Delt means so much more to me now than it ever did as an undergraduate." Dustin wants to encourage his brothers to "remember those who follow." "Outside of faith, family, and a very selective group of friends, I don't know of anything where you could possibly receive more than you could ever give quite like this fraternity." Contact Dustin at (371) 698-1869 or dustinsickinger@kw.com. Dustin and his wife, Melinda, live in Indianapolis with their beautiful and smart daughter, Marin Mae. DUSTIN SICKINGER '05 PASSIONATE FOR DELTA TAU DELTA Beta Zeta won the Hugh Shields Award for Chapter Excellence at the 2015 Northern Division Conference in Cleveland, Ohio. (Continued on page 4)
