"The time is coming when our colors of purple, white, and gold will be the recognized standard of creative leadership and excellence among all college fraternities." It's a line we've all stated—some of us more times than we can count. However, as this academic year comes to a close, it is especially true for our chapter on Butler's campus. This past year has been one for the record books for the men of Beta Zeta. The school year started off with the undergraduates having to dodge and maneuver around construction crews and traffic amidst a monumental project that would double the occupancy of the Shelter, and ultimately help push us to the forefront within the Greek world. Although challenges occurred, the boys didn't mind the mess—as each one could see the vision of what was in store. They could see alumni and volunteers coming together to support an endeavor that would enrich their lives, improve academic performance, allow for the brothers to eat together once again within the Shelter, and create a top-of-the-line living space that would foster a stronger bond between each member. More Than $700,000 Raised for Construction of Matt White Wing Behind the scenes, House Corporation members were meeting regularly with the design team and the construction crew to ensure every little detail was completed correctly. We also had dedicated alumni members from New York to Indiana and Illinois to Montana making phone calls, raising support, and reconnecting with alumni all over the country. With everyone's assistance, dedication, and support, we were able to raise more than $700,000 toward the renovation of the Shelter and the creation of the Matt White Wing. Undergraduates Move into Matt White Wing Construction was completed right on time so that the undergraduates could move into their new quarters before the start of the second semester. We are truly grateful Butler allowed many students to break their campus-housing lease so that they could move into the Shelter. Shortly after the boxes were unpacked, recruitment week kicked off—and what an incredible week it turned out to be. Beta Zeta gave out 35 bids to exceptional young men, and all 35 were accepted. Eight short weeks of pledgeship later, these men sat in a dimly lit chapter hall and recited the Oath of a Delt. Due to the size of our chapter, we had been conducting the Ritual ceremonies at the Central Office in Fishers for the past 10 years. This legacy will now be brought back to the Shelter because of the expansion. Beta Zeta Ranked First Among Delt Chapters Shortly after the start of the spring semester, a large number of undergraduates and alumni traveled to the Northern Division Conference in Cleveland to strategize, learn, and prepare for the future ahead. Those in attendance were able to see Beta Zeta bring home its 11th Hugh Shields Award for Chapter Excellence, placing us #1 among all Delt chapters in the nation. This brought us to April, where our men swept the floor with the Annual Greek Awards that were held on campus. Beta Zeta proudly accepted awards for Best Philanthropy, Campus Leadership, and Sustainability. Prestigious awards presented to individual brothers included Greek Man of the Year (David Ediger '16), Greek Emerging Leader of the Year (Sam Thomas '17), and Top Male Student (Chad Pingel '15). Fall grades were also reported with Beta Zeta achieving an overall 3.347, which was an improvement from the previous two semesters! $30,000 Raised for Trike The brothers finished out the year with Trike, our annual philanthropy that supports Riley Hospital for Children. This year, the undergraduates were able to come together and raise more than $30,000. What an incredible feat! Trike is near and dear to our hearts, since it is in memory of our fallen brother Ed Seaver '92. Please see the photo to the left of Ed and his pledge brothers. Big thanks to Mark Wolf '92 for sharing the photo and being a strong supporter of this event. Beta Zeta members accept annual Greek Excellence awards.
