Local teenager Rhiyanna Timberlake approached the Council in May; then gathered six other teenagers who are interested in making a difference in Quartzsite. The teens met with Town Manager Skylor Miller weekly working out logistics before Council members un- aimously voted to support the Youth Council. Timberlake stated, "The fi rst Town Council meeting in July we will be formally recognized as a Youth Council. We could not have done this without all the support we've received. We can start planning some events as soon as we want, so let's hit the ground running!" The QYC will hold their fi rst fundraising event, a car wash, on Saturday, June 20th from 9am - 1pm in the parking lot of Mobil/Burger King. "The Quartzsite youth council's mission is to build a better community for the town, by providing a safe, structured, substance free environment. The council will interact with both the youth and the adult members of the community, give back to the town, provide opportunities for the youth to learn leadership skills and give a collective voice to the local youth."
