• 3 • SigmaPhiEpsilon TheSigEpTigerHeart Alumni News Chapter Eternal Rodney M. Gillespie '64 entered Chapter Eternal on March 3 in St. Joseph, Mo., at age 73. During the 1970s and early '80s he owned and operated a Sears Catalog store and Gillespie Automotive while also selling real estate. Rod had many friends, never knew a stranger, and helped many in numerous ways. For many years he contributed to the Tiger Table and was a season ticket holder. Education was a priority to him and his family. Rod was a wonderful father to his twin girls. To them, he was a symbol of strength, hard work, dedication, strong values, and building relationships with everyone around you—no matter who the person might be. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Nancy; daughters, Tonya and Tara (Scott); grandchildren, Cash, Jesse, and Whitney; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alumni Update Irving R. Zelade '51 reports that his wife, Mary, suffered a stroke in November 2014 and is recovering slowly. Their first great-grandchild, Reid Zachary Brown, was born in June 2013 in Baton Rouge, La., and is handsome and smart. Irv lives in Lake Jackson, Texas. Walter C. Grebing '62 is a retired middle school principal in the Boulder Valley School District. He started Nuts and Bolts of Middle Level Education in 1990 to provide outstanding conferences for middle school principals and teachers in Boulder, Destin, Canada, and Georgia. He has two daughters, Marci and Kara, with his wife, Jana. Their daughter, Kara, is the coroner of Eagle County, Colo., and lettered four years at Missouri in basketball. E-mail: grebingjw@att.net Richard L. Schmidt '62 retired from working in the aerospace defense and electronics industries as a principal systems reliability engineer. In his retirement he has focused on health and increasing his level of physical activity by playing tennis as a member of the USTA, practicing yoga, and skiing in recreational ski racing through the Far West Ski Association. He was a part- time fireman and paramedic for 13 of those years, then served as full-time paramedic for 13 more years, and retired in 2006. He has two grandsons and two granddaughters. Bond '69 still works for Crowne Plaza Hotel, is president of the South Louisiana Chapter (96 members), and chairs the LaDreau teachers group for outstanding teachers and principals. He has four grandchildren, and his oldest, Morgan, is a freshman at Mizzou. She is a fourth generation Bond and belongs to the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Denny's son, Dennis '93, works for the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Columbia. He is also a previous grand chapter president for Sigma Phi Epsilon and has the University of Missouri Outstanding Alumni Award. Denny also just purchased a brick with Traditions Plaza. E-mail: supbowl93@aol.com The 1969 Missouri Tigers Football team was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, including Dan Kelley '70 and Tim Crnko '70. Considered one of, if not the, greatest teams that Mizzou has ever produced, the '69 Tigers finished the regular season 9-1, the only setback coming from a 31-24 loss at Colorado. Ron Grubbs '74, Tom Canty '68, Don Vogel '69, Brad Burton '69, Bob Meyer '68, Jerry Caesar '69, and Jim Walker '71 attended the annual SigEp Cunetto's lunch on December 29. A group of Mo Alpha alumni meet annually at the retreat of Ed Clausen '84 in Centertown, Mo. This year Steve Pfaff '85, Mike Delaney '71, Jim Moisson '86, Ed Clausen, Ray Lorenz '74, Jay Ransom '87, Mason Laster '84, Vern Smith '73, Mark Berger '86, Lance Sago '82, and Bob Garza '83 met on February 6-8. Ed says, "For many years we did a winter float trip on the 11 Point River. In 2007 we started hosting the gathering at my place in Centertown. That's when the big rock was delivered and Lance Sago '82 and Jay Ransom '87 painted it. We shoot skeet, eat like kings, and rekindle memories from the great old days at Mo Alpha."
