ByKellyOsborne Ithasbeenaveryexcit- ing year for The Tehama County Veteran Service Office. We moved into a larger office at The Bank of America Building, 955 Main St., Ste. C, Red Bluff, effective May 15. We have private offices and a beautiful waiting area now for our veterans and their families. We had a few problems switching the telephone lines and in- ternet to the new office, but most of the issues have been resolved. The VSO office lost all voice mail recordings from May 15 through May 19. If you left a telephone message for the VSO of- fice during this time pe- riod, please call back for assistance. I appreciate your continued patience and support as we expand VSO services in our com- munity. In addition to our relo- cation, the VSO office is going to partner with the Redding Veteran Resource Center as they provide supportive services to help prevent Tehama County veteran homelessness and assist with housing. They will be co-located with the VSO office at least twice a month. The VSO office will pro- vide their schedule as soon as it is available. We are also researching partnering with the Chico Veteran Center, who spe- cialize in providing a broad range of counsel- ing, outreach, and referral services to combat veter- ans in order to help them make a satisfying post- war transition to civil- ian life. On June 30 from noon to 2 p.m., the Chico Vet- eran Center will co-locate with the VSO office and conduct a needs assess- ment for Tehama County. They also provide be- reavement counseling ser- vices to surviving parents, spouses, children and sib- lings of service members who die of any cause while on active duty, to include federally activated Re- serves and National Guard personnel. If the VSO office has a good turnout for vet- eran participation in the needs assessment, we may be able to have the Chico Veteran Center counselor come to Red Bluff on a regular basis. The Board of Supervi- sors approved the VSO of- fice relocation and in- creased the VSO hours to full-time. The longer hours and increased focus have improved services for Te- hama County veterans. We are able to provide addi- tional service to our veter- ans as we have increased our claims and telephone assistance. The supervisors also ap- proved the implementa- tion of the Tehama County Veteran ID card program. I am hoping to have the program available mid- June. There are many state and federal benefits and programs available to vet- erans and their depen- dents. To find out if you are eligible for any of these benefits, call the Tehama County Veterans Service Office at 529-3664. Office appointment hours are 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The VSO office is by appointment only. Beverly Holden is helping the VSO office through the month of June and while she is here, 10 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. Monday through Thurs- day we can do walk-ins to make an appointment, income verification, col- lege fee waivers for dis- abled veteran dependent education and ID cards once the ID card is on- line. We are looking for- ward to meeting you or seeing you again on your return visit. KellyOsborne, retired U.S. Coast Guard, is the Veterans Service Officer for Tehama County.
