4A Daily News – Thursday, January 5, 2012 Pastimes An evening with Margaret Glaspy After graduating from Mercy High School, Margaret Glaspy accepted a scholarship to Berkeley School of Music, one of the most prestigious music schools in the country, in Boston. Upon completion, Glaspy has gone on to headline clubs all along the east coast from Boston to New York City. She will be bringing her show back home for one night only at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the State Theatre in Red Bluff. Glaspy's unique sound combined with with her amazing style make this a show that is too good to miss. Also featured will be Tom Threlkeld and the Antelope & Berrendos Fiddle Jammers. Courtesy photo Artist of the Month exhibits downtown Red Bluff Art Associa- tion's artist of the month for January is Josifa Casey who is currently showing her work at The Big Picture which is hosting a reception in her honor on Thursday, Jan. 12, at 9:30 a.m., 857 Washington St., Red Bluff. "This show is absolutely incredible, Dianne Rabalais, shop owner. "It is easy to see why Josifa is interna- tionally known. She is well traveled and it shows in her work. Come see for your- self before it's too late." This is also an opportu- nity to personally greet the artist and enjoy light refreshments. Included in the exhibit are a number of canvasses depicting floral subjects. These are a continuation of her "Yin-Yang" series, which in 1989 won an inter- national competition in New York. An avid garden- er and flower arranger, Josi- fa enjoys growing flowers from seed. The parallel of yin and yang can be seen through the life of a flower: birth, growth, maturity and death. Teams will navigate through an obstacle course with one person being blind folded, of course, pick up a cow pie and the passenger will hold it one handed while the team races back to the finish line. Teams will decorate their own wheelbarrows, which will be 25 percent of the score. Judging will take place on Jan. 24. First place will win belt buckles and a cow pie tro- phy. Each team gets three admission tickets to the Bull Ride and lots of advertising during the event. Registra- tion is $100 per team. Deadline to register is Jan. 20.
