8 UCW MAY 27- JUNE 2, 2015 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM Fayetteville is a home for the military. The close proximity to Fort Bragg has created a unique partnership that benefits both the town and the military in many ways. This relationship also comes with commitments. An issue that is plaguing military communities across the nation is homelessness. After the struggles of deployment and combat, the challenge of reintegration is a big one — especially after the trauma of warfare. Thousands of veterans across the nation are homeless and estimates suggest that more than a million are at-risk of becoming homeless. It is a pervasive and unavoidable issue and it is despicable for men and women who gave so much for the nation to have no home to return to. Veterans Empowering Veterans is working to alleviate that struggle in the Fayetteville/Cumberland County community. In an effort to not only raise awareness of the problem, but also raise funds to help homeless vets, the organization is holding a Venetian Masquerade Ball on June 6 at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux. VEV is a dedicated to helping veterans and alleviating some of the struggles that they face returning home from war. One of the group's main focuses is the issue of veteran homelessness. This year it is hosting a Venetian Masquerade ball and using the proceeds to support two halfway homes for homeless veterans. These homes are designed not only to provide shelter, but also to help with adjustment. The goal isn't to put a roof over their heads for as long as possible; it is to provide a stepping stone to a successful future. For those who wish to support the cause but cannot attend the ball, donations are welcomed on the VEV website. Raffle tickets are also available for purchase whether you can attend the ball or not. Tickets for the Venetian Masquerade Ball are $50, but for that price attendees are not only supporting local veterans they also get to enjoy an exciting evening. Tickets include dinner, a raffle, live music and much more. The live entertainment for the evening is Mesmerizing Arts. Acts include belly dancing, flamethrowers, magic and music played by DJ Prodigee. Masks are necessary for attendees and will add to the mystique and romanticism of the evening. The emcee for the evening is Nicole Carr from ABC News 11. Raffle tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.masqueradebalfay.com. Ticket holders do not need not be present in order to win the raffle. There are also sponsorship packages for the evening that offer various advertising opportunities and seats for companies looking to show their support for the nations brave heroes. These are also available for purchase on the previously mentioned website. The smallest sponsorship package begins at $1,500 and the largest is $5,000. This website is also equipped to accept donations. The Venetian Masquerade Ball will be held on June 6, from 6 p.m. until midnight at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux. The Holiday Inn Bordeaux is located at 1707 Owen Dr. Tickets are $50 and masks are required. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.
