therapist assistant at CCRC Physical Therapy is a fan of the old-fashioned buddy system. She said she and a few of her co-workers started a mini boot camp at their clinic three days a week. CCRC also has a run/walk team in the evenings to help motivate people, espe- cially during the winter months. "It's easier to get your butt out of bed when you know someone is waiting on you," she said. Of course, you could always join a gym and brave the cold long enough to get there and back, but if the gym isn't your style and you're looking for some- thing a little more personal, there are plenty of small fitness-oriented loca- tions to choose from. Consider your own fitness level. Are you just starting out and maybe a little shy about working out in front of oth- ers? Try personal training. Many train- ers offer personalized sessions in small and private settings. Many gyms also offer a ladies-only room as well, where men won't be grunting and sweating around you. Are you competitive by nature or a social butterfly? If you answer yes to either one of these, find something you can do with a group. Group fitness is great for motivation, accountabil- ity and fun competition. Who knows, you may even make some new friends. Places like RedPoint offer CrossFit classes and boot camps. Schrader said boot camp is great for all levels because it provides intensive coaching to in- sure safety and teach proper form and method. The Omni Health & Fitness' spin classes are always packed morn- ing, noon and night. They also offer Silver Sneakers classes for older folks who'd rather work out with people their own age. There's a lot you can do to keep mov- ing in the winter. Use some of these ex- amples to help you break away from hi- bernation and win your battle against the harsh cold temperatures. Your health should take priority. Do what- ever it takes to stay active — even when the weather outside is frightful.
