2B Daily News – Saturday, December 31, 2011 Religion Faith&Worship Blackwood Legacy to play Red Bluff The Blackwood Legacy, a group led by 36-year South- ern Gospel veteran Rick Price, will be performing at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, at Abundant Life Fellowship, 21080 Luther Road, in Red Bluff. The group comes from Nashville, Tenn. where most of today's Southern and Country Gospel sound originated. Price, who spent much of his career with the Blackwood Brothers, was mentored by the late Cecil Blackwood and was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame with the legendary quartet. Joining Price are contemporary worship musicians Luke Yates, an piano player and vocalist, and tenor Daniel Childs, grandson of the late Cecil Blackwood. Be prepared for a time of music and ministry that will appeal to all ages. For more information call 528-2499. What do you get when you combine a nationally recog- nized gospel music singer who is also one of the finest emcees in Gospel music, a home schooled piano playing genius and the great grandson to one of the founding fathers of Blackwood Brothers Quartet? The Blackwood Legacy! This Blackwood Legacy, comprised of Rick Price, Luke Yates and Daniel Childs, is one of the most successful and hardest working gospel music groups today. On tour more than 250 dates per year, this group truly demonstrate the love of God through their music, ministry and testimonies. This award-winning group will be presenting a special con- cert in our community on Sunday, January 15, 10:30 AM. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Anderson. Built on the legendary music of the Grammy and Dove award winning group, Blackwood Brothers Quartet, Rick Price and Chris Blackwood formed the Blackwood Lega- cy as a tribute to them. The Blackwood Legacy was recent- ly signed to Mansion Records, and will be soon releasing their first album under the new label. Inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame with the Blackwood Brothers, Price has over 30 years of gospel music under his belt. Believing "the road to the future is paved with memories of the past," and recognizing the need to reach audiences of all ages, Price has gathered some of the finest musicians on the Gospel scene today. He is joined by Luke Yates, a gifted pianist and amazing vocal- ist originally from the Spokane, Washington area, and Daniel Childs the great grandson to Blackwood Brothers founding father Roy Blackwood, and a well-known musi- cian and singer in his own right. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day" (2 Corinthians 4:16). When was the last time you had an arresting faith moment? It came unex- pectedly because you or I were not looking for it. It can pass you by because you are too busy or get lost in the distractions of life. We as American Christian citizens have had so many of our rights taken away that we have forgotten that prayer was the mainstay before most of our sporting events. When was the last time you heard someone from the announcer's booth say, "Let us stop for a moment of prayer that both teams enjoy safety and a great time of sportsmanship." Our faith in Christ is tested every day as legislation takes on a greater role in our lives as to when and where the exercise of our Christian faith can be expressed. It was a joy to go to the last football game between Red Bluff and Chico. There in front of the grandstands a group of gallant young men gathered to pray as they were about to go into an intense game of football knowing the game they were to play was not in their favor as to the outcome. What was exemplified on the side- lines of the field is what every believ- er needs to understand, "we never give up." Yes we must never forget to pray for God's strength and for His protec- tion when we are about to go into a contest in life. Did they win, no. But the final score does not diminish the fact that in my mind they have the hearts of champi- ons. And champions never give up, they press forward. The final score at the end of the day of our lives many times appears that the game is lost. Is it? Our bodies grow tired and weary but we must understand that the real invisible game is the game of life and it is played every day within the walls of our hearts. Here on Earth, the coaches for the Spartans are visibly seen on the field. The coaches of heaven cannot be seen with the human eye, but they are just as real and speak into our human hearts so our spirits can be renewed every day. We as believers keep pressing forward. These young men who admirably prayed on the field, did it out of their own free choice. The prayers before sporting events from the announcer's booth have for many years been silenced through judicial action. The great news is that it is being won on the football fields across the nation of America as bold young men such as these Spartans continue to press for- ward with prayer. Don't you believe for a moment that there aren't those in the stands looking for a way to seize or forcibly restrain these young men from expressing their constitutional JR Gonzales GodTalk rights as American citizens. In my eyes these young men are winners. The Bible says, "Only a fool says in his heart, there is no God." There is a God, and that is why the Spartans never gave up and we must never give up. There will be no athe- ists in hell. When the game on the field appears to be lost, remember spiri- tual strength is being built through the weights of adversity and trials. A champion never gives up in the natural and super- naturally remembers to pray. J. R. Gonzales has been the pastor of Corning New Life Assembly for the past five years. Jackson St., in Red Bluff. Featuring T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D and Caldwell Esselstyn, M.D. Forks Over Knives examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of so called "diseases of affluence" that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting animal-based and processed foods. The major storyline in the film traces the personal journeys of Dr. T. Colin Campbell, a nutritional scientist from Comell University, and Dr. Cald- wel] Esselstyn, a former top surgeon at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic. Their separate research led them to the same startling conclusion: degener- ative diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and even several forms of cancer, could almost always be pre- vented—and in many cases reversed— by adopting a whole foods, plant-based diet. Despite the profound implications of their findings, their work has remained relatively unknown to the public. Cost to see the movie is free.
