It may take a little while to sort that all out!! The fi rst day he was there, there was a special wreath laying at one of the cenotaphs, and he loved the bagpipes that were played. He said the streets were full of thousands of people cheering and clapping as they went by, Just before the ceremony was to begin, the crowds became silent, as they waited for Big Ben to chime 3:00, the time the surrender was made. The Duke of York laid the wreaths, and speakers included Winston Churchill's grandson and the Lord Mayor of London. Saturday was spent touring around London and the Thames River areas. And, on Sunday, there was a parade of all the veteran attendees to Westminster Abbey, where the Queen and Prince Philip laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. There was a fl yover of Spitfi res and Hurricanes, and lunch was in 3 huge tents with a special dance and singing. This was also attended by Prince Charles and Lady Camilla and to Elmer's surprise, Lady Camilla waved back at him and spoke to him at the luncheon. The plane trip was 9 hours each way, and Elmer came back just more than a little tired from all his grand adventures!! Thanks to his grandson Matt, he got to experience this great celebration, and now has over 1000 photos to look back at, as well as 22 videos- -this was truly a once in a lifetime adventure!!
